Part 3.
 THE  LAND OF MAGOG.

'The Russian Theory'; The 'Caucasian Theory'; 'Hashemite Kingdom Theory'; The 'All Europe Theory';  'Indo-European Theory'.

 'The Russian Theory'.
There are many opinions oncerning the whereabouts of the Land of Magog and what people possess it. The majority of Bible scholars agree that the Land of Magog geographically represents the territory of Central Asia, including regions of Southern Russia with all its Islamic nations north of the Caucasus Mountains. In conjunction with the phrase of Ezekiel 38:3, 'Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal', this most certainly points to Russia. A  wrong translation of the Hebrew word 'rosh' also heavily contributed to the Russian identification. Instead of translating 'rosh' as an adjective, meaning 'head' or 'chief', as it has been translated in Scripture on more than 400 occasions, the word 'Rosh' was mistranslated as a noun, indicating a place. Rosh sounds like Rossia, Rashu, Ros, Rus, Russia. Meshech and Tubal are too easily associated with the Russian capital Moscow and the biggest city of the western Siberia, Tobolsk. After all of this, how is it possible the Land of Magog could not be Russia? In this case, the Biblical Gog will appear in Russia and will lead massive military forces of Russia, all the '-stan' Muslim republics of  Southern Russia; plus Iran, Ethiopia, Sudan, Libya; 'Gomer with all his troops and house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands, many people with you.' (Ezekiel 38:5-6).

'Many people with you' is understood here as all the lands surrounding Israel i.e. the Arab and Muslim nations. They will joint the armies of Gog  against Israel. This is the so-called  'Russian Theory.' It is the most populous one, and amongst its followers are well known theological writers such as Hal Lindsey, Dwight Pentecost, John Walvoord, Jack Van Impe, Pastor F.M. Riley, and, of course, Steven M.Collins, and many more.

The 'Caucasian Theory.'
Other researchers strongly object to the 'Russian Theory' and come up with different explanations concerning the climactic events of the End Times. They say that 'Meshech' is not Moscow but 'Moshi', 'Moscocheni', 'Mushki', the ancient tribes from the time of Ezekiel 27:13; that 'Tubal' is not Tobolsk but 'Tubalu', 'Thobelites', 'Tibareni', who dwelled in Central Asia and in the regions of Black and Caspian Seas. The land of Magog, according to this theory, is the modern day Muslim Republic of Turkey, Southern Russia with all '-stan' countries and Northern Iran.

Gomer, Gimarrai, are according to the historian Josephus Flavius ( 'Antiquities of the Jews', chapter 6:1), 'those whom the Greeks now call Galatians (Gauls), but were then called Gomerites.' Magogites were called Scythians. In 700 BCE they were expelled from the Southern steppes of Russia into what is today Turkey.

Togarmah, the third son of Gomer, dwelled in ancient Cappodocia, which is in modern Turkey, and was known by the names of Tegarma, Tagarma, Til-garimmu, and Takarama.

Meshech, Tubal, Gomer and Togarmah, with all their bands, are descendants of Japheth, and the place of their settlements is mainly in Turkey and the Southern countries of Russia: Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, Pakistan'around 30 nations, united by Islam and by Turkic languages. They will form a confederation to conquer and destroy Israel. It is also be a religious crusade in the spirit of Islamic Jihad for the sole purpose of proving that the Muslim religion of the god Allah and his messenger Mohammed is superior to the religion of the God of Israel and His prophet Moses.

Most of these peoples are Sunny Muslims and very radical Islamists. They hate the Jewish people, America and the Western democracies. Their goal is to unite the Central Asian nations and, ultimately, the entire World under the Muslim religion and establish a Global Caliphate with Shariah Laws. Given the latest political development of  Turkey in  international spheres, its ties with Syria and Iran, support of radical Islam and the terrorist activities of Hezbollah and Hamas against Israel, the impression is that the current leadership is pushing the country away from Ataturk's vision of a peaceful secular Republic. They are moving  away from NATO and towards radical Islam. It would not be a surprise to see King Gog coming out of Turkey, the land of Magog, to lead that vast multitude of Islamic nations in an attack against Israel. There are indications that the Russians with troops and advisers will be involved, since Russia has been heavily committed to arming and training their Arab and Muslim client-states for many years, and anti-Semitism in Russia is on the rise. This is the so called 'Caucasian Theory.'

'Hashemite Kingdom Theory'
Close to this scenario is the 'Hashemite Kingdom Theory': The Islamic coalition of nations make up the lands occupied by Magog, Gomer, Togarmah, Meshech and Tubal. Turkey will attack Israel from the north; Iran ' from the east; Libya ' from the west; and Sudan from the south.

The 'All Europe Theory'
The 'All Europe Theory": Gog and Magog represent here the Japhethic races who originated the European nations. This is not a widely supported version of the Wars of Gog and Magog.

 'Indo-European Theory'
And the last one is called the 'Indo-European Theory', where Gog and Magog include an alliance of Japhethic, Muslim and Arab nations: Russia, Turkey, nations of Central Asia, Southern Russia and Black Sea area.

Out of all these theories, most attention should be given to the 'Russian' and the 'Caucasian' ones.
