1. Zechariah: The Return of Joseph
Zechariah 10:6-12
[Zechariah 10:6] AND I WILL STRENGTHEN THE HOUSE OF JUDAH, AND I WILL SAVE
THE HOUSE OF JOSEPH, AND I WILL BRING THEM AGAIN TO PLACE THEM; FOR I HAVE
MERCY UPON THEM: AND THEY SHALL BE AS THOUGH I HAD NOT CAST THEM OFF: FOR I
AM THE LORD THEIR GOD, AND WILL HEAR THEM.
This is the re-union of the Lost Ten Tribes with Judah.
Joseph and Judah
will re-unite.

[Zechariah 10:7] AND THEY OF EPHRAIM SHALL BE LIKE A MIGHTY MAN, AND THEIR
HEART SHALL REJOICE AS THROUGH WINE: YEA, THEIR CHILDREN SHALL SEE IT, AND
BE GLAD; THEIR HEART SHALL REJOICE IN THE LORD.
Malbim: The Ten tribes are encompassed by the term "Ephraim". They shall be
aroused with the Spirit of Heroism to fight the Wars of the
Almighty.

[Zechariah 10:8] I WILL HISS FOR THEM, AND GATHER THEM; FOR I HAVE REDEEMED
THEM: AND THEY SHALL INCREASE AS THEY HAVE INCREASED.
Their will be a period when their numbers will dwindle but the Almighty
will later enable them to increase greatly as they had in the
past.

[Zechariah 10:9] AND I WILL SOW THEM AMONG THE PEOPLE: AND THEY SHALL
REMEMBER ME IN FAR COUNTRIES; AND THEY SHALL LIVE WITH THEIR CHILDREN, AND
TURN AGAIN.
Not only the Israelites will return but also many foreigners will become
attached to them, identify with them, and return with them.
Radak: They will return with the wealth they have earned in distant lands
and it will enable them to support their children.

[Zechariah 10:10] I WILL BRING THEM AGAIN ALSO OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT,
AND GATHER THEM OUT OF ASSYRIA; AND I WILL BRING THEM INTO THE LAND OF
GILEAD AND LEBANON; AND PLACE SHALL NOT BE FOUND FOR
THEM.
Egypt and Assyria could apply to areas in Europe, as we have explained
elsewhere. The exiles of Israel will leave these areas.
Gilead means Syria and Lebanon means Lebanon. These areas will be
re-populated by the Lost Ten Tribes represented by "Ephraim".

[Zechariah 10:11] AND HE SHALL PASS THROUGH THE SEA WITH AFFLICTION, AND
SHALL SMITE THE WAVES IN THE SEA, AND ALL THE DEEPS OF THE RIVER SHALL DRY
UP: AND THE PRIDE OF ASSYRIA SHALL BE BROUGHT DOWN, AND THE SCEPTRE OF
EGYPT SHALL DEPART AWAY.
Extract from "Ephraim," chapter six.
* Jerome on [Zechariahariah 10;11:"And he shall pass through the sea..." :
"The Hebrews say that the Assyrians and Chaldeans took the Jews into
captivity not only to Persia and Media but also to the Bosporus and the
north; and at the end of days God in his mercy will call them back from there:"
By "Jews" taken into captivity by the Assyrians Jerome is actually
referring to Israelites from the northern Ten Tribes even though strictly
speaking these were not  "Jews" which appellation refers to Judaeans from
the southern kingdom dominated by Judah.

[Zechariah 10:12] AND I WILL STRENGTHEN THEM IN THE LORD; AND THEY SHALL
WALK UP AND DOWN IN HIS NAME, SAITH THE LORD.

3. Knowledge of Australia in Ancient Times
  http://www.abc.net.au/navigators/maps/default.htm
The idea of a Great Southern land, to balance the known land masses of the Northern Hemisphere, originated with the Classical Greeks. Both the Mela Map of 43 C.E. and the Ortelius map of 1570 show this mythical continent, Terra Australis Incognito, which persisted on the maps until Captain James Cook finally dispelled the idea by his exploration of the Antarctic Seas.

4. Description of Brit-Am Available Books
A run-down of Brit-Am books:
"Origin" - a shorter work divided in two even shorter sections.
First half gives an overview of the historical background and paths of
Migration from the Middle East to the West.
The second half goes quickly through the Bible, book by book, highlighting
prophecies concerning the Lost Ten tribes in the End Times and where they can now
be located.
"Biblical Truth" - Goes through the Book of Genesis and analyzes in detail, verse by verse, all prophecies
and blessings concerning the Lost Ten Tribes.
A good book in its own right and a useful Bible Study companion.
"Joseph" - Puts together sources from Scripture, History, Historical Sociology, Rabbinical Commentary,
etc that all lead to the same conclusions and all concern North America. Includes important
sources and background information regarding the Messiah son of Joseph, future leader
of the Lost Ten Tribes before they return and re-unite with Judah.
"Ephraim" - Companion volume to "Joseph". "Ephraim" is ALMOST out of print
and may become temporarily unavailable. In some ways this may be the best book
ever written on the subject. Includes a lot of sources not recalled elsewhere.
"The Tribes" is very large and comprehensive.  It makes for interesting reading.
Covers everything to a degree while concentrating on evidence that enables the
identification of individual Israelite Tribal identities.
A significant work and one which anybody interested in this issue should be familiar with.

6. David Jackson: USA founded on Mercantilist Base?
From: david jackson <djackson22@verizon.net>
Subject: Re: "Brit-Am Now"-774

Yair,
It's not really accurate to say the US was founded by religious zelaots, as
the Australia attachment in Brit-Am #774 relates.  The very first English
settlers are more accurately described as tobacco profiteers.

There were some communities in New England, such as at Salem, Massachusetts,
where a small group of religious zealots did control the secular government
for a period of time, but this hardly reflected the character of the country
as a whole.

The great majority of early settlers came for economic opportunity or in
some cases to escape judicial sentences, similar to Australia.

Of those who came to the US for religious reasons, it was to escape
religious persecution.  Once here, they made little effort to spread their
beliefs beyond their own insular communities, or in some cases to convert
the Indians.  Puritans in New England, for example, made no effort to
convert Anglicans in New York to Puritanism.  They would have simply been
ignored or more likely laughed at.

If anything characterizes the US it is and always has been, for better or
worse, a spirit of mercantilism, where almost any imaginable religion is
tolerated.

Brit-Am Comment: This ties in with the name Machir or Ha-Machiri that gave rise
to the name "America". "Machir" in Biblical Hebrew can means literally
"price, pricing, selling" and could connote the Principle of Capitalism.

8. Jacob Jonker: The origin of the word "Yankee"

To Yair Davidiy,

In your commentary concerning the second book of Isaiah,  you mention that the word "Yank" is a form of Jacob.  If the name "Jan" is a nickname for Jacob, then I suppose that this is true.  You may already be familiar with the following explanation on the word "Yankee"; however, at the risk of being redundant, this is what I believe.

It seems to me that the origin of the word "Yankee" is derived from the Dutch jonkers(squires) of colonial America.  Jonkers were, more often that not, wealthy owners of large farms and they would usually hire laborers to work for them.  As payment for a season's labor, workers would customarily share in one-tenth of the farm's harvest.  They would also receive cheese; a valuable commodity at the time.

In private, employees often referred to the jonker as "Jan Kaas"; especially if they were disgruntled with the jonker's arrangement with them.  "Jan Kaas" means "Johnny Cheese".  In the Dutch tongue, the "J" is pronounced as a "Y".  As a result, when English-speaking Americans tried to mimic the words "Jan Kaas", they would also pronounce the "J" as a "Y".  The rest of the nickname was anglicized.  The same transformation occurs when my father, whose surname happens to be "Jonker", declares his name in a Dutch accent.  English-speaking people invariably repeat "Jonker" by pronouncing the "J" as a "Y" and anglicizing the rest.

It is apparent that the word "Yankees" sounds very similar to the the anglicized pronunciation of the nickname "Jan Kaas" when the "J" is pronounced as a "Y".  "Jan Kaas" sounds as "Yankaas".  In English, however, words with "AA" spellings are rare and hard to say.  Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that the "EE" spelling in the word "Yankee" naturally developed in order to facilitate the English language.

Originally, English-speaking Americans adopted the nickname "Jan Kaas" in the form of Yankee to insult their superiors, politicians, etc.  Today, of course, the word "Yankee" is simply a nickname for an American.

   9. Rob Jones: Question on the coming destruction of Damascus
From: Robert Jones <rjones100k@yahoo.com>
Subject: Destruction of Damascus
Mr. Davidiy,

Lately, many newspapers have begun to report about Syria being emboldened, that they are preparing for war with Israel.  I bring this up because Isaiah speaks of the destruction of Damascus and the fortified city of Ephraim in Chapter 17.

I realize that Bible prophecy sometimes predicted a near occurence and a future or end time prophecy all in the same chapter.  My question is how extensive was Damascus destroyed by the Assyrians?  The city rose back to prominence during the Roman period, quite possibly in a different location than the original city and the second comment is about the stronghold of Ephraim.

It seems that Syria and its capital Damascus is heading for a confrontation with Israel and eventually a complete destruction of this city.  Isaiah seems to be referring to this eventual and complete destruction of Damascus in his oracle.

The second part of his oracle referencing this fortified city of Ephraim being destroyed, seems to be a little more cloaked in mystery.  Isaiah does reference the prosperity or fattness of Ephraim waining.  Since the US and Britain are deeply involved in Iraq, this could be the fortress Isaiah is referring to.  Second,  politically and possibly economically this Fortress they have been building in Iraq could be enveloped by civil war and cause them to lose everything they have built.  This could eventually lead to a major depression that could effect both the US and Britain.  Lastly, in verse 13 it says the other nations rush in to take advantage of this situation and are sent running like the wind.

I've seen many opinions about Isaiah chapter 17, I'm curious to see how you see this unfolding.

Answer: There were two places named Damascus in the Bible.
see:
The  NORTHERN  BORDERS of Biblical Israel
http://britam.org/now/now402.html
Concerning Isaiah  ch.17 see:
http://britam.org/isaiah/chap-seventeen.html
Regarding your specific question:
We have not gone into this in depth but it reads that
Damascus will be destroyed, Ephraim very severely injured
because of iniquity BUT "Ephraim" (representing all the Ten Tribes?) will
repent. The heathen nations will smell vulnerability and rush
in for the kill against Ephraim but they will be totally defeated.
This could be interpreted as another aspect of the Wars of Gog and Magog
or alternately of a separate event.
