Chapters with Brit-Am Commentary

Summary of Individual Chapters:
Chapter 11: The future Messiah will be descended from Jesse the father of David (11:1).
He shall be Divinely Inspired and have outstanding personal qualities including especially the fear of the Almighty (11:2-3).
His ability to judge matters will verge on the supernatural (11:4).
In the Messianic Era there will be peace and the strong shall not victimize the weak (11:6-8).
The entire world will have an awareness of God (11:9).
All peoples of the earth will wish to be ruled by the Messiah son of David (11:10).
 The exiles of Israel will be brought back from Assyria, Mitsraim (Egypt or Russia?), Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, and the Isles (misleadingly translated  in the KJ as "coastlands") of the Sea (11:11).
The "Outcast" Ten Tribes and the Dispersed of Judah will be gathered from all over the earth (11:12). The extremism of Ephraim will depart and the jealousy of Ephraim by others will end:
The expression translated as "THE JEALOUSY OF EPHRAIM" (11:13) in Hebrew is "Kinath Ephraim" which means both his own extremism and the jealousy against him of others.
The Persecutors and harassers of Judah will be cut off. Ephraim will no longer be jealous of Judah and Judah will cease to perturb and compete with (Hebrew: "Tsor" translated as "vex") Ephraim. This indicates that right up to the very end some fiction will remain between Judah and Ephraim (11:13). Ephraim and Judah together will transfer the Palestinians by airflight to some place in the west.  They shall plunder people of the east; put their hand on Edom and Moab (in the west?)  and bring Ammon into subjection (11:14).
The Sea of Mitsraim (Egypt, Bosphorus?) will split into seven dry channels allowing the Israelites from the Ten Tribes who remain after the Exile of Assyria to pass through (11:15-16).
The Jewish Sages had a tradition that the Lost Ten Tribes crossed the Bosporus into Europe and that they would return by the same path.

There will also be a special pathway from Assyria for the remnant of Israel to return (11:16).
 
Chapter 12: We will praise God in that Day. He is our salvation and fountain of joy (12:1-3). Israel should sanctify the God of Israel (who exists amongst us 12:6) in the midst of the world (12:4-6).
 
Chapter 13: Isaiah begins to prophecy against Babylon (13:1). God will destroy Babylon and bring enemies against her from a far land (13:5). The effects of destruction may be occasioned by nuclear or bio-chemical effects (13:8). Changes will take place in the heavenly constellations (13:10, 13). The whole world will feel the effects and suffer (13:11). Due to disasters people will seek to be with their own kind and return to their places of origin (13:14). [Historically Babylon was a world capital and contained contingents of numerous nations who had been brought to it as captives or had come there for other reasons]. The children of Babylon will be killed, the women ravished (13:16). The uncivilized Medes will kill Babylonians without regard to age or sex (13:17-18).
[Craig White and others identify the Medes with Ukrainians and others from the former "Soviet Sphere". There is an overlap between Germany, Edom, and Babylon. In WWII the Soviet Armies raped most of the women in the conquered areas of Germany.]

Babylon will be destroyed completely, for ever and ever. Even wandering Arabs, used to desert conditions and waste places, will not want to pitch their tent there (13:19). It will be a domain of wild beasts (13:21-22).
 
Chapter 14: God will have mercy on the Ten Tribes and Judah and bring them back to their land. Foreigners will join themselves to Israel and inherit with them (14:1). In some cases the foreigners will be accepted as equals and in other cases they will accept the status of servants (14:2). Peoples who had taken Israelites as captives will be treated as captives and will serve Israelites (14:2). Israel will be comforted from its bondage in Babylon (14:3-4). The whole world will be relieved since they all suffered from Babylonian oppression (14:5-11).

Babylon is likened unto the Morning Star ("Hillel ben Shachar" literally "Shining son of the Morning") high up in the heavens which is brought down to the depths. This is translated in the King James as "LUCIFER, SON OF THE MORNING" (14:12). "Lucifer" was an angel who rebelled against God (14:12-15?) and was cast out of heaven becoming the Satan. This interpretation appears to be of Jewish origin and is referred to in some Jewish sources BUT it was later emphasized by Christianity and has become associated with Christian Doctrine. Whoever "Hillel ben Shachar" (Lucifer) represents Isaiah continues and applies his figuration as representing a real historical personage who headed a might Empire (will a new Hitler arise? Someone more terrible than Hitler, Stalin, and Mao together?) who upset kingdoms (14:16), made the world a wilderness, destroying cities and creating "Gulags" of slave labor (14:17). While other national leaders have peace in the grave "Lucifer" (the new Greater Stalin-Hitler enhanced clone) will be expelled from his tomb like the mythical figure "Netser", translated as "branch" (14:19). He (whoever "he" is) will have murdered his own people. The descendants of Babylon will be destroyed (14:2-22). Assyria will be destroyed in the Land of God and trodden down on His hillsides. The yoke of Assyria will be removed (14:25). All of this has been decided by the Almighty to befall all the nations of the earth. It will come to pass (14:26-27). 
 
Isaiah prophesies against the Philistines meaning probably the present-day Palestinians (14:29) who will meet disaster (14:30-31).
 
Zionism is a God-ordained doctrine for the sake of the oppressed of His people (14:32).
 
Chapter 15: Moab will be punished and its cities meet with disaster (15:1-9).

Isaiah 11 to 15

Chapter 11

[Isaiah 11:1] THERE SHALL COME FORTH A SHOOT FROM THE STUMP OF JESSE, AND A BRANCH SHALL GROW OUT OF HIS ROOTS.                     
This is speaking of the future Messiah son of David whose father was Jesse (Yishai).

[Isaiah 11:2] AND THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD SHALL REST UPON HIM, THE SPIRIT OF WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING, THE SPIRIT OF COUNSEL AND MIGHT, THE SPIRIT OF KNOWLEDGE AND THE FEAR OF THE LORD.                     
He shall be a human being with spiritual and other powers beyond those of other people.

[Isaiah 11:3] AND HIS DELIGHT SHALL BE IN THE FEAR OF THE LORD. HE SHALL NOT JUDGE BY WHAT HIS EYES SEE, OR DECIDE BY WHAT HIS EARS HEAR;                     
He will have developed the ability of insight into the hearts and souls of other beings.

[Isaiah 11:4] BUT WITH RIGHTEOUSNESS HE SHALL JUDGE THE POOR, AND DECIDE WITH EQUITY FOR THE MEEK OF THE EARTH; AND HE SHALL SMITE THE EARTH WITH THE ROD OF HIS MOUTH, AND WITH THE BREATH OF HIS LIPS HE SHALL SLAY THE WICKED.                     

[Isaiah 11:5] RIGHTEOUSNESS SHALL BE THE GIRDLE OF HIS WAIST, AND FAITHFULNESS THE GIRDLE OF HIS LOINS.                     

[Isaiah 11:6] THE WOLF SHALL DWELL WITH THE LAMB, AND THE LEOPARD SHALL LIE DOWN WITH THE KID, AND THE CALF AND THE LION AND THE FATLING TOGETHER, AND A LITTLE CHILD SHALL LEAD THEM.                     
"THE WOLF SHALL DWELL WITH THE LAMB": Some take this literally others see it as a metaphor just meaning that things will be better and there will be peace on earth. No more war, oppression, or violence.

[Isaiah 11:7] THE COW AND THE BEAR SHALL FEED; THEIR YOUNG SHALL LIE DOWN TOGETHER; AND THE LION SHALL EAT STRAW LIKE THE OX.                     

[Isaiah 11:8] THE SUCKING CHILD SHALL PLAY OVER THE HOLE OF THE ASP, AND THE WEANED CHILD SHALL PUT HIS HAND ON THE ADDER'S DEN.                     

[Isaiah 11:9] THEY SHALL NOT HURT OR DESTROY IN ALL MY HOLY MOUNTAIN; FOR THE EARTH SHALL BE FULL OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE LORD AS THE WATERS COVER THE SEA.                     
"THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE LORD": We shall all know the truth. In our generation by seeking to learn the truth and spread knowledge of it we are helping to forward the Messianic Era.

[Isaiah 11:10] IN THAT DAY THE ROOT OF JESSE SHALL STAND AS AN ENSIGN TO THE PEOPLES; HIM SHALL THE NATIONS SEEK, AND HIS DWELLINGS SHALL BE GLORIOUS.                     

[Isaiah 11:11] IN THAT DAY THE LORD WILL EXTEND HIS HAND YET A SECOND TIME TO RECOVER THE REMNANT WHICH IS LEFT OF HIS PEOPLE, FROM ASSYRIA, FROM EGYPT, FROM PATHROS, FROM ETHIOPIA, FROM ELAM, FROM SHINAR, FROM HAMATH, AND FROM THE COASTLANDS OF THE SEA.                     
These are the exiles of Judah and Israel: The places spoken of are areas to which exiles were taken and from there went elsewhere. They are not necessarily places from which the exiles will return.
ASSYRIA: The Lost Ten Tribes who were exiled by Assyria. Some equate Assyria WITH GERMANY.
EGYPT in Hebrew "Mitsrayim". Some of the Lost Tribes were exiled via Egypt and so too were many of the Jews. The Celts of Britain and Ireland had early contacts with Egypt. Egypt in some contexts can also equal Russia.
PATHROS: A place in Egypt though some place it on the Turkish border.
"ETHIOPIA" in Hebrew "Cush". Cush could mean Africa in general, Sudan, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, India, Central Asia. In connection with the Lost Ten tribes we believe in most cases that "Cush" applies to Central Asia.
ELAM: An area in southwest Persia. Elam was once an important country. The bulk of the Ancient Persians were probably of Elamite origin. Elamite was the most common spoken language amongst the Persians. Archeological findings reveal a connection between Elam and the Sacae of Central Asia who became the Anglo-Saxons. Elam was descended from Sem.
Craig White and others trace people of Yugoslavia and other parts of Europe to Elam.
SHINAR meaning Babylon but also applied to the northern shores of the Black Sea. Babylon was an important dispersion point for the Jews of Judah.
COASTLANDS OF THE SEA: In Hebrew ""Iyai HaYam"" or Isles of the Sea and referring to the British Isles. Over the years we have encountered a lot of problems with these Israelite Identifications of ours. Even so the overall conclusions have been confirmed and the justification for our direction of enquiry has been strengthened.

[Isaiah 11:12] HE WILL RAISE AN ENSIGN FOR THE NATIONS, AND WILL ASSEMBLE THE OUTCASTS OF ISRAEL, AND GATHER THE DISPERSED OF JUDAH FROM THE FOUR CORNERS OF THE EARTH.                     
OUTCASTS OF ISRAEL, = The Lost Ten Tribes who will be found gathered together in specific areas.
THE DISPERSED OF JUDAH i.e. the Jews who are scattered all over the world.

[Isaiah 11:13] THE JEALOUSY OF EPHRAIM SHALL DEPART, AND THOSE WHO HARASS JUDAH SHALL BE CUT OFF; EPHRAIM SHALL NOT BE JEALOUS OF JUDAH, AND JUDAH SHALL NOT HARASS EPHRAIM.
<<Concerning who did Isaiah pronounce this prophecy? He was speaking only concerning Judah and Joseph. Said Rabbi Shmuel son of Nachman in the name of Rabbi Yonathan, When Joseph and Judah were arguing the Holy Angels said to each other, Let us go down and see what is happening. Usually when a bull and a lion confront each other the bull retreats before the lion. In this case a bull (Joseph) and a lion (Judah) are arguing and there is a standoff. Jealousy will continue to abide between these two until the Messiah comes, as it says, "THE ENVY ALSO OF EPHRAIM SHALL DEPART, AND THE ADVERSARIES OF JUDAH SHALL BE CUT OFF: EPHRAIM SHALL NOT ENVY JUDAH, AND JUDAH SHALL NOT VEX EPHRAIM" [Isaiah 11:13]. (Tanchuma, VaYigash, 4).

<<In the past Jeroboam the son of Nebat who was from Ephraim hated King Rehoboam who was from Judah. There was a controversy between them. In the future there will be peace between these two anointed leaders. They will not be jealous of each other. Concerning them, it says, "THE ENVY ALSO OF EPHRAIM SHALL DEPART, AND THE ADVERSARIES OF JUDAH SHALL BE CUT OFF: EPHRAIM SHALL NOT ENVY JUDAH, AND JUDAH SHALL NOT VEX EPHRAIM" [Isaiah 11:13].  (Brayshit Rabati page 147).

<<Everywhere you find these two tribes (Judah and Joseph) hating each other and  antagonistic to each other, etc. May we infer from this that even the future Anointed Captain of War who will arise from Joseph and the Annoited Messiah who will arise from Judah will (Heaven forbid) be jealous of each other? No. There will be no antagonism between them, as it says, "THE ENVY ALSO OF EPHRAIM SHALL DEPART, AND THE ADVERSARIES OF JUDAH SHALL BE CUT OFF: EPHRAIM SHALL NOT ENVY JUDAH, AND JUDAH SHALL NOT VEX EPHRAIM" [Isaiah 11:13]. (Agadat Brayshit 63).   


"EPHRAIM" represents all the Ten Tribes.
"WHO HARASS JUDAH SHALL BE CUT OFF": Anti-Semites will be punished.
"EPHRAIM SHALL NOT BE JEALOUS OF JUDAH": A lot of anti-Semitism is due to jealousy.
"JUDAH SHALL NOT HARASS EPHRAIM": Jewish do-gooders and hyper-active individuals etc sometimes antagonize other people.
This verse speaks of "Ephraim" (the Ten Tribes) and "Judah" (the Jews) as remaining separate entities sometimes antagonistic to each other right up o the end times.

[Isaiah 11:14] BUT THEY SHALL SWOOP DOWN UPON THE SHOULDER OF THE PHILISTINES IN THE WEST, AND TOGETHER THEY SHALL PLUNDER THE PEOPLE OF THE EAST. THEY SHALL PUT FORTH THEIR HAND AGAINST EDOM AND MOAB, AND THE AMMONITES SHALL OBEY THEM.                     
 The above verse (Isaiah 11;14) concerning the Philistines as it has been translated (in the KJ and Orthodox Jewish "Koren" translation) is consistent with the simple Hebrew and with the context. Nevertheless, one of the intricacies of Biblical Hebrew is that often words and expressions may intentionally have more than one meaning. In this case the Hebrew may also be understood as saying,

"THEY SHALL FLY THE PHILISTINES AWAY WESTWARD"
The Hebrew says: "VeAFU BeCeTeF PLiSHTIM  YaMaH..", i.e. word for word:
    "[veafu] And they will fly ((or cause to be flown)) [becetef] by wing [Plishtim] Phillistines [yama] towards the Sea ((or Towards the west)) ":

This may be interpreted to mean anyone of the following:
1.That the Phillistines in the west are being flown against, OR
2. ALTERNATELY (and more consistently with the Literal Hebrew) that they will be flown out westward, OR
3.BOTH EXPLANATIONS MAY PROVE CORRECT!
It is interesting to note that the word for westward is the Hebrew "Yamah" meaning literally "to the sea", and the sea was in the west. The Palestinians used to repeatedly declare their intention of driving the Jews "into the sea" though now they use more openly that they want to kill all the Jews. On some subconscious mystical level the Palestinians may have been trying to redirect what is literally prophesied concerning their own destiny i.e. The Palestinians shall be transported elsewhere by air flight "towards the sea", to somewhere in the west, perhaps to North Africa or to South America.
    Not only does Scripture and its connected tradition identify modern nations with their ancestral counterparts, the Bible also indicates the final outcome of ancestral struggles that were begun long ago.

[NUMBERS 33:51] SPEAK UNTO THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL, AND SAY UNTO THEM, WHEN YE ARE  PASSED OVER JORDAN INTO THE LAND OF CANAAN;                     

[NUMBERS 33:52] THEN YE SHALL DRIVE OUT ALL THE INHABITANTS OF THE LAND FROM BEFORE YOU, AND DESTROY ALL THEIR PICTURES, AND DESTROY ALL THEIR MOLTEN IMAGES, AND QUITE PLUCK DOWN ALL   THEIR HIGH PLACES:                     

[NUMBERS 33:53] AND YE SHALL DISPOSSESS THE INHABITANTS OF THE LAND, AND DWELL THEREIN: FOR I HAVE GIVEN YOU THE LAND TO POSSESS IT.                     
 
Isaiah 11;14 continues:
TOGETHER THEY SHALL PLUNDER THE PEOPLE OF THE EAST. THEY SHALL PUT FORTH THEIR HAND AGAINST EDOM AND MOAB, AND THE AMMONITES SHALL OBEY THEM.                     
Ephraim and Judah will work together. They shall be united. They shall subdue the eastern peoples,
Edom (Europe especially Germany and Italy) will be taken care of. So will Moab (in Eastern Europe").
And the Ammonites will obey them.

[Isaiah 11:15] AND THE LORD WILL UTTERLY DESTROY THE TONGUE OF THE SEA OF EGYPT; AND WILL WAVE HIS HAND OVER THE RIVER WITH HIS SCORCHING WIND, AND SMITE IT INTO SEVEN CHANNELS THAT MEN MAY CROSS DRYSHOD.                     
"DESTROY THE TONGUE OF THE SEA OF EGYPT": Some say this is the region of Suez. The Bosporus (connecting Asian Turkey to Europe) is also a possibility in the light of other commentaries.
"IT INTO SEVEN CHANNELS": 7 channels against the 7 areas of exile (Commentary in Me Am Loaz) mentioned earlier in Isaiah 11;11 from Assyria, Mitsrayim, Patros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, Isles of the Sea.

[Isaiah 11:16] AND THERE WILL BE A HIGHWAY FROM ASSYRIA FOR THE REMNANT WHICH IS LEFT OF HIS PEOPLE, AS THERE WAS FOR ISRAEL WHEN THEY CAME UP FROM THE LAND OF EGYPT.
(Commentary in Me Am Loaz)  FROM ASSYRIA: For those of the Lost Ten tribes exiled by Assyria.

Chapter 12

[Isaiah 12:1] AND IN THAT DAY THOU SHALT SAY, O LORD, I WILL PRAISE THEE: THOUGH THOU WAST ANGRY WITH ME, THINE ANGER IS TURNED AWAY, AND THOU COMFORTEDST ME.
"ANGRY WITH ME": Sometimes when we are punished and realize we are being punished and turn back to God and He has mercy on us we can be grateful for the punishment.
COMFORTEDST ME: There is no sin that cannot be forgiven, no disaster that cannot be mitigated.

 [Isaiah 12:2] BEHOLD, GOD IS MY SALVATION; I WILL TRUST, AND NOT BE AFRAID: FOR THE LORD JEHOVAH IS MY STRENGTH AND MY SONG; HE ALSO IS BECOME MY SALVATION.
"GOD IS MY SALVATION": God can do anything.

 [Isaiah 12:3] THEREFORE WITH JOY SHALL YE DRAW WATER OUT OF THE WELLS OF SALVATION.
The waters of salvation from the spring of Sichon in Jerusalem.

 [Isaiah 12:4] AND IN THAT DAY SHALL YE SAY, PRAISE THE LORD, CALL UPON HIS NAME, DECLARE HIS DOINGS AMONG THE PEOPLE, MAKE MENTION THAT HIS NAME IS EXALTED.                     
DECLARE HIS DOINGS AMONG THE PEOPLE: In Hebrew "amim" i.e. not "people" in the singular but rather "peoples". All the world must know of the glory of God.

 [Isaiah 12:5] SING UNTO THE LORD; FOR HE HATH DONE EXCELLENT THINGS: THIS IS KNOWN IN ALL THE EARTH.
IN ALL THE EARTH: The great men of all nations in some way or other acknowledge God. God is the God of Israel.

 [Isaiah 12:6] CRY OUT AND SHOUT, THOU INHABITANT OF ZION: FOR GREAT IS THE HOLY ONE OF ISRAEL IN THE MIDST OF THEE.
IN THE MIDST OF THEE i.e. in the midst of Zion, of Jerusalem. On a mystical-symbolic level "Zion" can also represent Joseph. The Eternal God is amongst us. We have to reach HIM and listen.

Chapter 13

[Isaiah 13:1] THE BURDEN OF BABYLON, WHICH ISAIAH THE SON OF AMOZ DID SEE.
This prophecy is against Babylon but the Commentators say that that it is also referring to the last days. Many people from Babylon went to Rome and one tradition identifies Rome with Babylon.


 [Isaiah 13:2] LIFT YE UP A BANNER UPON THE HIGH MOUNTAIN, EXALT THE VOICE UNTO THEM, SHAKE THE HAND, THAT THEY MAY GO INTO THE GATES OF THE NOBLES.

 [Isaiah 13:3] I HAVE COMMANDED MY SANCTIFIED ONES, I HAVE ALSO CALLED MY MIGHTY ONES FOR MINE ANGER, EVEN THEM THAT REJOICE IN MY HIGHNESS.             

 [Isaiah 13:4] THE NOISE OF A MULTITUDE IN THE MOUNTAINS, LIKE AS OF A GREAT PEOPLE; A TUMULTUOUS NOISE OF THE KINGDOMS OF NATIONS GATHERED TOGETHER: THE LORD OF HOSTS MUSTERETH THE HOST OF THE BATTLE.

 [Isaiah 13:5] THEY COME FROM A FAR COUNTRY, FROM THE END OF HEAVEN, EVEN THE LORD, AND THE WEAPONS OF HIS INDIGNATION, TO DESTROY THE WHOLE LAND.

[Isaiah 13:6] HOWL YE; FOR THE DAY OF THE LORD IS AT HAND; IT SHALL COME AS A DESTRUCTION FROM THE ALMIGHTY.

 [Isaiah 13:7] THEREFORE SHALL ALL HANDS BE FAINT, AND EVERY MAN'S HEART SHALL MELT:

 [Isaiah 13:8] AND THEY SHALL BE AFRAID: PANGS AND SORROWS SHALL TAKE HOLD OF THEM; THEY SHALL BE IN PAIN AS A WOMAN THAT TRAVAILETH: THEY SHALL BE AMAZED ONE AT ANOTHER; THEIR FACES SHALL BE AS FLAMES.
 "IN PAIN AS A WOMAN THAT TRAVAILETH": Is this referring to the effects of biological warfare? Nuclear devastation?
Jeremiah 26 also speaks of similar phenomena.

 [Isaiah 13:9] BEHOLD, THE DAY OF THE LORD COMETH, CRUEL BOTH WITH WRATH AND FIERCE ANGER, TO LAY THE LAND DESOLATE: AND HE SHALL DESTROY THE SINNERS THEREOF OUT OF IT.

 [Isaiah 13:10] FOR THE STARS OF HEAVEN AND THE CONSTELLATIONS THEREOF SHALL NOT GIVE THEIR LIGHT: THE SUN SHALL BE DARKENED IN HIS GOING FORTH, AND THE MOON SHALL NOT CAUSE HER LIGHT TO SHINE.
Changes in the heavens? Effects in the atmosphere of nuclear disaster?

 [Isaiah 13:11] AND I WILL PUNISH THE WORLD FOR THEIR EVIL, AND THE WICKED FOR THEIR INIQUITY; AND I WILL CAUSE THE ARROGANCY OF THE PROUD TO CEASE, AND WILL LAY LOW THE HAUGHTINESS OF THE TERRIBLE.
This passage speaks against sinners in general and against the proud. Pride is very damaging. Many Scriptures speak against pride. We are all proud. Some pride may be necessary for survival but on the whole it is a negative trait.

 [Isaiah 13:12] I WILL MAKE A MAN MORE PRECIOUS THAN FINE GOLD; EVEN A MAN THAN THE GOLDEN WEDGE OF OPHIR.
"OPHIR": Some say Ophir is Peru. King Solomon took gold from "Ophir". In my opinion the name "Ophir" is related to the term "Africa" and the original Ophir was in South Africa.

 [Isaiah 13:13] THEREFORE I WILL SHAKE THE HEAVENS, AND THE EARTH SHALL REMOVE OUT OF HER PLACE, IN THE WRATH OF THE LORD OF HOSTS, AND IN THE DAY OF HIS FIERCE ANGER.

 [Isaiah 13:14] AND IT SHALL BE AS THE CHASED ROE, AND AS A SHEEP THAT NO MAN TAKETH UP: THEY SHALL EVERY MAN TURN TO HIS OWN PEOPLE, AND FLEE EVERY ONE INTO HIS OWN LAND.
"TURN TO HIS OWN PEOPLE": Repatriation? People going back to their ancestral roots?

 [Isaiah 13:15] EVERY ONE THAT IS FOUND SHALL BE THRUST THROUGH; AND EVERY ONE THAT IS JOINED UNTO THEM SHALL FALL BY THE SWORD.

 [Isaiah 13:16] THEIR CHILDREN ALSO SHALL BE DASHED TO PIECES BEFORE THEIR EYES; THEIR HOUSES SHALL BE SPOILED, AND THEIR WIVES RAVISHED.

 [Isaiah 13:17] BEHOLD, I WILL STIR UP THE MEDES AGAINST THEM, WHICH SHALL NOT REGARD SILVER; AND AS FOR GOLD, THEY SHALL NOT DELIGHT IN IT.

 [Isaiah 13:18] THEIR BOWS ALSO SHALL DASH THE YOUNG MEN TO PIECES; AND THEY SHALL HAVE NO PITY ON THE FRUIT OF THE WOMB; THEIR EYES SHALL NOT SPARE CHILDREN.

 [Isaiah 13:19] AND BABYLON, THE GLORY OF KINGDOMS, THE BEAUTY OF THE CHALDEES' EXCELLENCY, SHALL BE AS WHEN GOD OVERTHREW SODOM AND GOMORRAH.

 [Isaiah 13:20] IT SHALL NEVER BE INHABITED, NEITHER SHALL IT BE DWELT IN FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION: NEITHER SHALL THE ARABIAN PITCH TENT THERE; NEITHER SHALL THE SHEPHERDS MAKE THEIR FOLD THERE.
The original site of ancient Babylon is now desolate and deserted. The Arabs are afraid to pitch their tents in its vicinity.

 [Isaiah 13:21] BUT WILD BEASTS OF THE DESERT SHALL LIE THERE; AND THEIR HOUSES SHALL BE FULL OF DOLEFUL  CREATURES; AND OWLS SHALL DWELL THERE, AND SATYRS SHALL DANCE THERE.

 [Isaiah 13:22] AND THE WILD BEASTS OF THE ISLANDS SHALL CRY IN THEIR DESOLATE HOUSES, AND DRAGONS IN THEIR PLEASANT PALACES: AND HER TIME IS NEAR TO COME, AND HER DAYS SHALL NOT BE PROLONGED.                     

Chapter 14

[Isaiah 14:1] FOR THE LORD WILL HAVE MERCY ON JACOB, AND WILL YET CHOOSE ISRAEL, AND SET THEM IN THEIR OWN LAND: AND THE STRANGERS SHALL BE JOINED WITH THEM, AND THEY SHALL CLEAVE TO THE HOUSE OF JACOB.                   
"THE STRANGERS SHALL BE JOINED WITH THEM": Converts and sojourners will attach themselves to Judah and Israel and identify with them.

 [Isaiah 14:2] AND THE PEOPLE SHALL TAKE THEM, AND BRING THEM TO THEIR PLACE: AND THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL SHALL POSSESS THEM IN THE LAND OF THE LORD FOR SERVANTS AND HANDMAIDS: AND THEY SHALL TAKE THEM CAPTIVES, WHOSE CAPTIVES THEY WERE; AND THEY SHALL RULE OVER THEIR OPPRESSORS.                    
It is not certain who is being referred to here. Both some of those non-Israelite people who took the land away when the Israelites and Jews were exiled  as well as some descendants of those who oppressed the Jews in Exile will of their own volition become servants to the returnees. Who or how this will eventuate we do not know.

[Isaiah 14:3] AND IT SHALL COME TO PASS IN THE DAY THAT THE LORD SHALL GIVE THEE REST FROM THY SORROW, AND FROM THY FEAR, AND FROM THE HARD BONDAGE WHEREIN THOU WAST MADE TO SERVE,

 [Isaiah 14:4] THAT THOU SHALT TAKE UP THIS PROVERB AGAINST THE KING OF BABYLON, AND SAY, HOW HATH THE OPPRESSOR CEASED! THE GOLDEN CITY CEASED!                     
The redemption of Israel will be connected to the fall of Babylon.

 [Isaiah 14:5] THE LORD HATH BROKEN THE STAFF OF THE WICKED, AND THE SCEPTRE OF THE RULERS.

 [Isaiah 14:6] HE WHO SMOTE THE PEOPLE IN WRATH WITH A CONTINUAL STROKE, HE THAT RULED THE NATIONS IN ANGER, IS PERSECUTED, AND NONE HINDERETH.                     

 [Isaiah 14:7] THE WHOLE EARTH IS AT REST, AND IS QUIET: THEY BREAK FORTH INTO SINGING.               

 [Isaiah 14:8] YEA, THE FIR TREES REJOICE AT THEE, AND THE CEDARS OF LEBANON, SAYING, SINCE THOU ART LAID DOWN, NO FELLER IS COME UP AGAINST US.     

 [Isaiah 14:9] HELL FROM BENEATH IS MOVED FOR THEE TO MEET THEE AT THY COMING: IT STIRRETH UP THE DEAD FOR THEE, EVEN ALL THE CHIEF ONES OF THE EARTH; IT HATH RAISED UP FROM THEIR THRONES ALL THE KINGS OF THE NATIONS.         

 [Isaiah 14:10] ALL THEY SHALL SPEAK AND SAY UNTO THEE, ART THOU ALSO BECOME WEAK AS WE? ART THOU BECOME LIKE UNTO US?     

 [Isaiah 14:11] THY POMP IS BROUGHT DOWN TO THE GRAVE, AND THE NOISE OF THY VIOLS: THE WORM IS SPREAD UNDER THEE, AND THE WORMS COVER THEE.                     

 [Isaiah 14:12] HOW ART THOU FALLEN FROM HEAVEN, O LUCIFER, SON OF THE MORNING! HOW ART THOU CUT  DOWN TO THE GROUND, WHICH DIDST WEAKEN THE NATIONS!       
 "LUCIFER, SON OF THE MORNING": In Hebrew "Hilel ben Shachar". Here Babylon is epitomized by a prince of Tyre who like Babylon ascribed to himself divinity.
Christian tradition identified "Lucifer" with an angel who rebelled against God and became the Satan or devil. A whole doctrine has developed around this concept. The tradition has Jewish folk-lore roots derived from Apocryphal Literature and obscure sources.  The concept of fallen angels does exist in legend. There is such a thing as a "Satan" and there are forces of evil. "Satan" in Hebrew means adversary. We all have internal and external adversaries to doing what we should. We should strive to overcome, cast down, or re-channel all negative forces.
On the simple level the Prophet is referring to a real political entity that once existed. On the other hand the imagery used does lend itself to supernatural interpretations.

 [Isaiah 14:13] FOR THOU HAST SAID IN THINE HEART, I WILL ASCEND INTO HEAVEN, I WILL EXALT MY THRONE ABOVE THE STARS OF GOD: I WILL SIT ALSO UPON THE MOUNT OF THE CONGREGATION, IN THE SIDES OF THE NORTH:

 [Isaiah 14:14] I WILL ASCEND ABOVE THE HEIGHTS OF THE CLOUDS; I WILL BE LIKE THE MOST HIGH.

 [Isaiah 14:15] YET THOU SHALT BE BROUGHT DOWN TO HELL, TO THE SIDES OF THE PIT.

 [Isaiah 14:16] THEY THAT SEE THEE SHALL NARROWLY LOOK UPON THEE, AND CONSIDER THEE, SAYING, IS THIS THE MAN THAT MADE THE EARTH TO TREMBLE, THAT DID SHAKE KINGDOMS;                  

 [Isaiah 14:17] THAT MADE THE WORLD AS A WILDERNESS, AND DESTROYED THE CITIES THEREOF; THAT OPENED NOT THE HOUSE OF HIS PRISONERS.
He was an oppressor of other peoples.

 [Isaiah 14:18] ALL THE KINGS OF THE NATIONS, EVEN ALL OF THEM, LIE IN GLORY, EVERY ONE IN HIS OWN HOUSE.                     

 [Isaiah 14:19] BUT THOU ART CAST OUT OF THY GRAVE LIKE AN ABOMINABLE BRANCH,
<<C"Netser" Nitav =LIKE AN ABOMINABLE BRANCH. "Netser" represented a pagan-Jewish  religious hero cultic figure who went down to the place of the dead, See our book, "Ephraim. The Gentile Children of Israel".

 AND AS THE RAIMENT OF THOSE THAT ARE SLAIN, THRUST THROUGH WITH A SWORD, THAT GO DOWN TO THE STONES OF THE PIT; AS A  CARCASS TRODDEN UNDER FEET.                     

 [Isaiah 14:20] THOU SHALT NOT BE JOINED WITH THEM IN BURIAL, BECAUSE THOU HAST DESTROYED THY LAND AND SLAIN THY PEOPLE: THE SEED OF EVILDOERS SHALL NEVER BE RENOWNED.             

 [Isaiah 14:21] PREPARE SLAUGHTER FOR HIS CHILDREN FOR THE INIQUITY OF THEIR FATHERS; THAT THEY DO NOT RISE, NOR POSSESS THE LAND, NOR FILL THE FACE OF THE WORLD WITH CITIES.
"THE INIQUITY OF THEIR FATHERS": When the fathers are sinners and the children do not repent then they can be caught up in the punishment. If we do good then God protects us and our children and the children of our children for thousands of generations.

 [Isaiah 14:22] FOR I WILL RISE UP AGAINST THEM, SAITH THE LORD OF HOSTS, AND CUT OFF FROM BABYLON THE NAME, AND REMNANT, AND SON, AND NEPHEW, SAITH THE LORD.
He is returning to speak of Babylon and on one level was speaking of Babylon all the time. On another level he was referring to other matters.

 [Isaiah 14:23] I WILL ALSO MAKE IT A POSSESSION FOR THE BITTERN, AND POOLS OF WATER: AND I WILL SWEEP IT WITH THE BESOM OF DESTRUCTION, SAITH THE LORD OF HOSTS.

 [Isaiah 14:24] THE LORD OF HOSTS HATH SWORN, SAYING, SURELY AS I HAVE THOUGHT, SO SHALL IT COME TO PASS; AND AS I HAVE PURPOSED, SO SHALL IT STAND:

 [Isaiah 14:25] THAT I WILL BREAK THE ASSYRIAN IN MY LAND, AND UPON MY MOUNTAINS TREAD HIM UNDER  FOOT: THEN SHALL HIS YOKE DEPART FROM OFF THEM, AND HIS BURDEN DEPART FROM OFF THEIR SHOULDERS.                     
"I WILL BREAK THE ASSYRIAN IN MY LAND": We have not sufficiently clarified to what degree Assyria is Scripturally distinct from Babylon. Historically the Assyrians and Babylonians fought against each other but also were culturally intertwined with each other. The Assyrians at one stage attempted to make Babylon identical with Assyria. To a degree in Scripture at some levels Edom, Babylon, Assyria, and Tyre appear to overlap. The Midrashim also mention this.

 [Isaiah 14:26] THIS IS THE PURPOSE THAT IS PURPOSED UPON THE WHOLE EARTH: AND THIS IS THE HAND THAT IS STRETCHED OUT UPON ALL THE NATIONS.                   

 [Isaiah 14:27] FOR THE LORD OF HOSTS HATH PURPOSED, AND WHO SHALL DISANNUL IT? AND HIS HAND IS STRETCHED OUT, AND WHO SHALL TURN IT BACK?    

 [Isaiah 14:28] IN THE YEAR THAT KING AHAZ DIED WAS THIS BURDEN.
"BURDEN": In Hebrew "Masa" also understandable as simply meaning "message". In modern Hebrew the word is used in the sense of "Essay" or short article.

 [Isaiah 14:29] REJOICE NOT THOU, WHOLE PALESTINA, BECAUSE THE ROD OF HIM THAT SMOTE THEE IS BROKEN: FOR OUT OF THE SERPENT'S ROOT SHALL COME FORTH A COCKATRICE, AND HIS FRUIT SHALL BE A FIERY FLYING SERPENT.                 
"PALESTINA": Palestine means Philistines but in the modern sense is also applicable to the present so-called "Palestinian" people. The Palestinians are supported by the Europeans and Japan. Perhaps these represent Babylon and Tyre?
A descendant from David will arise and save the Jewish people from their oppressors. He will finalize the re-unification with the Lost Ten Tribes, i.e. with Joseph. Together they will transfer the Palestinians many of whom want to leave anyway.

 [Isaiah 14:30] AND THE FIRSTBORN OF THE POOR SHALL FEED, AND THE NEEDY SHALL LIE DOWN IN SAFETY: AND I WILL KILL THY ROOT WITH FAMINE, AND HE SHALL SLAY THY REMNANT.

 [Isaiah 14:31] HOWL, O GATE; CRY, O CITY; THOU, WHOLE PALESTINA, ART DISSOLVED: FOR THERE SHALL COME FROM THE NORTH A SMOKE, AND NONE SHALL BE ALONE IN HIS APPOINTED TIMES.                  

 [Isaiah 14:32] WHAT SHALL ONE THEN ANSWER THE MESSENGERS OF THE NATION" THAT THE LORD HATH FOUNDED ZION, AND THE POOR OF HIS PEOPLE SHALL TRUST IN IT.
 

Chapter 15
[Isaiah 14:32] WHAT SHALL ONE THEN ANSWER THE MESSENGERS OF THE NATION" THAT THE LORD HATH FOUNDED ZION, AND THE POOR OF HIS PEOPLE SHALL TRUST IN IT.

[Isaiah 15:1] THE BURDEN OF MOAB. BECAUSE IN THE NIGHT AR OF MOAB IS LAID WASTE, AND BROUGHT TO SILENCE; BECAUSE IN THE NIGHT KIR OF MOAB IS LAID WASTE, AND BROUGHT TO SILENCE;                      [
Moab is a European entity today. Maybe Part of France and neighbored by Reuben and Gad amongst the French as in former times? Or part of Poland? Both possibilities could explain a lot of events. Is Lithuania Ammon?

 [Isaiah 15:2] HE IS GONE UP TO BAJITH, AND TO DIBON, THE HIGH PLACES, TO WEEP: MOAB SHALL HOWL OVER NEBO, AND OVER MEDEBA: ON ALL THEIR HEADS SHALL BE BALDNESS, AND EVERY BEARD CUT OFF.

 [Isaiah 15:3] IN THEIR STREETS THEY SHALL GIRD THEMSELVES WITH SACKCLOTH: ON THE TOPS OF THEIR HOUSES, AND IN THEIR STREETS, EVERY ONE SHALL HOWL, WEEPING ABUNDANTLY.

 [Isaiah 15:4] AND HESHBON SHALL CRY, AND ELEALEH: THEIR VOICE SHALL BE HEARD EVEN UNTO JAHAZ: THEREFORE THE ARMED SOLDIERS OF MOAB SHALL CRY OUT; HIS LIFE SHALL BE GRIEVOUS UNTO HIM.

 [Isaiah 15:5] MY HEART SHALL CRY OUT FOR MOAB; HIS FUGITIVES SHALL FLEE UNTO ZOAR, AN HEIFER OF THREE   YEARS OLD: FOR BY THE MOUNTING UP OF LUHITH WITH WEEPING SHALL THEY GO IT UP; FOR IN THE WAY OF HORONAIM THEY SHALL RAISE UP A CRY OF DESTRUCTION.
"MY HEART SHALL CRY OUT FOR MOAB": God through the Prophets laments the calamities of Moab and other nations.

 [Isaiah 15:6] FOR THE WATERS OF NIMRIM SHALL BE DESOLATE: FOR THE HAY IS WITHERED AWAY, THE GRASS FAILETH, THERE IS NO GREEN THING.
"NO GREEN THING": Ecological disasters?

 [Isaiah 15:7] THEREFORE THE ABUNDANCE THEY HAVE GOTTEN, AND THAT WHICH THEY HAVE LAID UP, SHALL THEY CARRY AWAY TO THE BROOK OF THE WILLOWS.    

 [Isaiah 15:8] FOR THE CRY IS GONE ROUND ABOUT THE BORDERS OF MOAB; THE HOWLING THEREOF UNTO EGLAIM, AND THE HOWLING THEREOF UNTO BEERELIM.    

 [Isaiah 15:9] FOR THE WATERS OF DIMON SHALL BE FULL OF BLOOD: FOR I WILL BRING MORE UPON DIMON,  LIONS UPON HIM THAT ESCAPETH OF MOAB, AND UPON THE REMNANT OF THE LAND.
