I cannot agree with this Naphali story of the Orkneys.
according to all historical evidence i.e. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rollo.
The overclass in the Orkneys after the era of the Picts was Benjamin.
The existence of Rollo has been validated according to all Icelandic archives. His family came from More, in Western Norway and he was the son of Rognvald Eysteinsson, Earl of Norway.
He fell foul of the Norwegian king Harald Fairhair. Consequently he became a Jarl in Normandy at the same time that other familys that were unpopular petty kings in some Norwegian areas were about to be expelled from Norway by Harald Fairhair who won a battle at Hafrsfjord 872. Very shortly after that 11 noble families came to Iceland from Norway and the northernmost part of the British Isles and settle down here. Before Rollo (Gongu-Hrolfur) reached Normandy he wents to his brothers in the Orknies. He got there a mistress and left there at least one daughter. She went later to Iceland with her relatives, and married here and had children.
Rollo always declared that he was from the Tribe of Benjamin.
And that his family came to Norway and the North-Wast Atlantic from the Alps. (Maybe it was the people Jordanes mentions that was allowed to go through Danmark in the years 505-510, when the last Herulian petty kings from Dacia and Moesia left?). But the truth is that this people were never  really at peace with the inhabitants that had been here before, even though, as it seems, some inter- marriages took place. This ended with the battle of Hafrsfjor 872.

In this time Gardarike http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gar%C3%B0ar%C3%ADki was blossoming.
 = Svi-thjod (thjod means nation or tribe)? If so Svi is the name of the female deer = Napthali tribe. Then there are the Varingans = the rulers both of Svi-thjod the colder and Svi-thjod the bigger=Gardarike.

The name of Naphtali according tot he Commentaries is derived from the word root PTL connoting combining different things together.
The task of Naphtali is to help unify and join the Tribes of Israel together.

Naphtali (as explained by the Abarbanel) is a faithful emissary. From Naphtali emerged those who were eloquent in expression. Naphtali had qualities making him worthy to serve monarchs but not necessarily to become a king himself.
A characteristic of Naphtali was his sociability.

Deuteronomy 33:
23 And of Naphtali he said:
'O Naphtali, satisfied with favor,
And full of the blessing of the Lord,
Possess the west and the south.'

Abarbanel:  Naphtali is sociable, He is "satisfied with favor" good with company and pleasing to all.


S. R. Hirsch considers Naphtali to be more of an agent for others rather than an original source of inspiration in his own right.
What others have decided for the good of the generality Naphtali adopts for himself and endeavors to put it into practice as if it was his own.
Naphtali has the good of the community in general at heart. He seeks to harmonize and in his own character is harmonious.

Different sources indicate that Naphtali will help initiate the final reconciliation between Judah and Joseph.

Naphtali sanctifies the profane.

The chief city of Naphtali was Tiberias on the Sea of Galilee. Tiberias in a sense was at the center of Israel. So too, Naphtali is in the middle of what is going on and serves as a gathering place for all Israel.

Naphtali keeps the Tribe of Dan attached to Israel.
