1. New Article: Biblical Study: An Eye for an Eye in the Bible? Lex Talionis? http://www.britam.org/Eye.html [Based on an article by Matan Gringer (Mekor Rishon, 17 February 2012, Shabat). Extract: We are all familiar with the Biblical expression "an eye for an eye". We usually automatically assume that it should mean that if someone pokes out the eye of another then they should have their own eye poked out. The Rabbis said it meant just the opposite: If you poke out the eye of someone else you should pay monetary compensation. They said they were relying on an Oral Instruction explicitly given by Moses himself. The technical term for this and similar cases falls under the category of Haleca me-Moshe Rabbeinu i.e. Law from Moses our Teacher. Even so, the Hebrew Bible supports such an interpretation! in other words the Rabbis were not changing or twisting the simple literal meaning of the Hebrew text but rather clarifying what it actually said! Article is accompanied by interesting illustrations of Israeli (and other) coins and commemorative medallions including Biblical scenes such as Joseph and his brothers, Samson and the lion, Abraham and the stars, the wolf lying down with the lamb. 2. The Daily Proof : The Best Places on the Earth at the Ends of the Earth. 26 February 2012, 3 Adar 5772 The Land of Israel is at the Center of the Earth according to the Hebrew Bible (Ezekiel 38:12) . In our previous proofs we have traced the Lost Ten Tribes to the "ends" or Geographic Extremities of the Great Land Masses. This is just one proof out of very many others all of which must be considered as part of each other and complementing each other. Not only are the Lost Ten Tribes mostly to be found today at the Extremities ("Ends") of the Earth but the areas of their location are described as the most noble, exalted, or "best" places on Earth. 8 But you, Israel, are My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, The descendants of Abraham My friend. 9 You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, And called from its farthest regions [Hebrew: Atziliyah i.e. Best Parts], And said to you, You are My servant, I have chosen you and have not cast you away (Isaiah 41:8-9). The Environment does influence us. It affects our health, our national characteristics, our physical appearance, levels of energy, ability to concentrate, and numerous other factors. The Israelites received Blessings and also Tasks. The Ten Tribes had a Role of their own to play in world history. The areas they were placed in were those areas that would be conducive to fulfillment of the Hebrew National Obligations.
