Britain as Ephraim -3. The British Empire.

Ephraim was predicted to become in Hebrew 'Malao ha-Goyim' (Genesis 48:19) translated
as 'A MULTITUDE OF NATIONS' but literally meaning 'fullness of the peoples' . Ephraim (according to Rabbinical Commentators) was to rule over the nations or literally determine the very existence of other nations. This was fulfilled through the British Empire. It is a proof that the British are Ephraim.
The British Empire once ruled over about 25% of the world's population. Many nations that exist in the world today only came into being thanks to British rule and tutelage.

Since the 1600s one of the meanings of the word 'race' has been people of a common heritage or lineage. To say there is no such thing as race is basically to say that there is no such thing as ethnicity.
Hopefully all readers of this website deplore pejorative usages of race, such as believing that there are inferior races or repeating coarse slurs.
However to deny that it exists at all seems a little simplistic. One conservative Christian publication I am familiar with goes so far as to say that races don't exist and uses the term 'people groups' instead.
Let's not be childish. Of course there are races... If there weren't then there wouldn't be differential frequencies (and life-saving screenings) for heritable diseases such as sickle-cell anemia in Africans or tay-sachs among Ashkenazi Jews. Nor would we see that nearly all American Indians are blood type O while only about one-third of the world is. Race-based correlations like this could be multiplied ad infinitum. They are common knowledge among medical and law-enforcement professionals.
Race (or ethnicity if you prefer) is a useful term for aggregations higher than the family level (one's personal family tree) and lower than all humanity. And I might add that minority populations would have the most to lose if the concept of race was abolished. For example, imagine the difficulty that a black man in majority white country would have in proving that obvious racial hiring discrimination was based on his being merely a member of the 'human species' or more narrowly, due to his family surname. He would certainly know that it was race-based.

We cannot find an express statement in the Tanach that "the names of the Tribes, their Israelite identity, would be forgotten by them." However. when we add several statements together, they all add up to the same effect.
The "root" of this curse of losing one's name is in one of the clauses of the everlasting Covenant itself that was to apply to all of Jacob's progeny, through all time:
"Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath; but with him that standeth here with us this day before the LORD our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day." -- Deut. 29:14 (JPS).
"lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood; " -- Deut. 29:17
"I thought I would make an end of them, I would make their memory cease from among men;" - Deut. 32:26
Here God says that He thought of exterminating all of Israel, and thusly "make their memory cease from among men;"
However, God has spared them, for He promised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that their progeny would endure in the bonds of covenants made with the forefathers. Therefore the death sentence, as the penalty for idolatry, was commuted to a sentence of spiritual death, for a while, with the curse of "their memory erased from the memory of men" was retained. This death sentence is depicted in the Valley of Dry Bones Ez. 37.
Ezekiel predicted that they would return, and this return would be characterized as "regaining, i.e. literally "reinheriting themselves." This can be done when a people regain their lost identities, i.e. their "names," Ez. 22:16 (Artscroll Chumash)
This regaining of "lost identity" is often the case with individuals, princes and protagonists in many fairy tales, legends and heroic stories.
We also get a hint of these lost names restored when Elijah names twelve stones after the names of the Tribes of Israel. Stones have no names. Hence these "nameless stones are used to depict Israel receiving their names, when Elijah names them. The hint seems to be that he symbolically restored the names of many among the Ten Tribes, when he confronted the Prophets of Baal and Ashtarte during the apostasy of Ahab and Jezebel. Why? Because they already had themselves named after pagan names. No doubt, many had themselves named after pagan deities, just like today. This was to be a forerunner of the end times restoration, when similarly the names, i.e. identity of the Tribes will be restored from rank apostasy:
"And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying: 'Israel shall be thy name.' "--- I Kings 18:31

I appreciated your succinct history of the British Empire. I would like to correct one error though, and also to suggest an item under the ?Negative Points? heading.
With reference to Ceylon (nowadays Sri Lanka), the British took control from the Dutch, not the French. Ceylon is an English corruption of the Dutch name Zeelon (spl?), and the Dutch took the island from the earlier Portuguese colonisers. Both the Dutch and the Portuguese had limited control of the island, their influence was limited to key costal trading towns. When the British replaced the Dutch administration, they brought the whole island into British subjugation.
The French had a remote connection to the island as some French Royalists moved there after the French Revolution, though they were mainly found in Pondicherry in French India. The capital city of Sri Lanka, Colombo, is named after a French Royalist naval captain, Colomb, who sailed there after the revolution in France. There was also a large number of French Huguenots who settled there alongside the Dutch, German, Swedes, Swiss, etc. who came as settlers and traders with the Dutch East India Company. The Dutch were however in full control till the British took over.
Your Australian readers might be interested to know that when the British arrived, a young Highland officer was tasked to take Galle, the second city in Ceylon. He marched his regiment to the city gates and found them locked by the Dutch civil and military leadership. Instead of laying siege to the city, he ordered his men to set up camp at the city gates and wait for the Dutch to make the first move. The next day the Dutch opened the gates and the British troops marched in. The Dutch civil and military authorities signed a declaration of capitulation, the young Highland officer then reappointed them back to their original roles as British citizens instead of being Dutch burghers, they raised the Union Jack, then marched out of the city. This highland officer was latter promoted to many senior government positions in the British Empire including his role as the ?father of Australia? as some historians have referred to him, he was Lachlan Macquarie.
Under the Negative Points heading, I would include the Amritsar Massacre (1919) in India. This event, more than any other, was to turn both British and world opinion against British rule of India (the British ?Raj?). According to British sources, almost 400 unarmed Indian men, women and children were shot by British troops for protesting against British rule. According to Indian sources, over 1,000 unarmed citizens were slaughtered that day. Whatever the correct number is, this event was a terrible blot on British military history, and quashed any claims to rulership the British may have felt they possessed due to 'moral superiority'. The British were originally welcomed into India as were their forefathers, the Aryans of Ephraim. The Aryans were welcomed almost as demi-gods; these tall fair people brought their (paleo-Hebrew?) Sanskrit language, their horses, and just rulership to northern and eastern India. When the British arrived, they brought their Pax-Britannica, railways, commercial prosperity, and latter parliamentary democracy. The Amritsar Massacre however negated all the good which the British had done.
