1. Thomas Malloy: Sabbath Keepers in Europe.
Dear Yair;

I thought you might find this article on European churches who were Sabbatarianism and Unitarian:

Extracts:

Britain
It is worthy of note that Pelagius, the well-known theologian, was born in Britain about 380 ...He emphasized the freedom and ability of man to co-operate with the grace of God (Edwards, p. 23)
....The Celts acknowledged the holiness of the Bible, taking it literally and obeying it wholeheartedly; even the food regulations in the Old Testament were received as the law of God. The Celts were organised as tribes, which seem to have been of mixed racial origins.

James C. Moffatt (The Church in Scotland, p. 140) says that:
It seems to have been customary in the Celtic churches of early times, in Ireland as well as Scotland, to keep Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath, as a day of rest from labour. They obeyed the fourth commandment literally upon the seventh day of the week.

Flick (The Rise of the Medi'al Church, p. 237) says that:
The Celts used a Latin Bible unlike the Vulgate (R.C.) and kept Saturday as a day of rest, with special religious services on Sunday.

In Scotland until the tenth and eleventh centuries it was asserted that:
They worked on Sunday but kept Saturday in a Sabbatical manner ...  These things Margaret abolished (Andrew Lang, A History of Scotland from the Roman Occupation, Vol. I, p. 96; see also Celtic Scotland, Vol. 2, p. 350).

Skene also comments (Celtic Scotland, Vol. 2, p. 349) regarding Queen Margaret and her activities against Sabbath-keeping in Scotland:
Her next point was that they did not duly reverence the Lord's day, but in this latter instance they seemed to have followed a custom of which we find traces in the early Church of Ireland, by which they held Saturday to be the Sabbath on which they rested from all their labours.

Lewis (Seventh Day Baptists in Europe and America, Vol. 1, p. 29) says:
There is much evidence that the Sabbath prevailed in Wales universally until AD 1115, when the first Roman bishop was seated at St. David's. The old Welsh Sabbath-keeping churches did not then altogether bow the knee to Rome, but fled to their hiding places.

 Thomas Bampfield, Speaker in one of Cromwell's parliaments, wrote on behalf of seventh day Sabbath observance and was imprisoned in Ilchester jail (Calamy 2, 260). According to Stennet's letters, 1668 and 1670, there were about nine or ten churches that keep the Sabbath, besides many scattered disciples, who have been eminently preserved (R. Cox, Sabbath Laws, ibid., Vol. I, p. 268).

By and large, from this period, Sabbath-keeping incurred an almost enforced migration to America. According to Jas. Bailey, Stephen Mumford, the first Sabbath-keeper in America came from London in 1664 (J. Bailey, History of the Seventh Day Baptist General Conference, pp. 237-238). In 1671 the Seventh Day Baptists had broken from the Baptist Church in order to keep Sabbath (see Bailey History, pp. 9-10). However, the Pilgrim Fathers were from a Sabbath-keeping tradition (cf. the paper The Dutch Connection of the Pilgrim Fathers (No. 264)).

Northern Europe
Also at the Catholic Provincial Council of Bergen [Norway] 1435, it was said:
We are informed that some people in different districts of the kingdom, have adopted and observed Saturday-keeping.
It is severely forbidden - in holy church canon- [for] one and all to observe days excepting those which the holy Pope, archbishop, or the bishops command. Saturday-keeping must under no circumstances be permitted hereafter further that the church canon commands. Therefore we counsel all the friends of God throughout all Norway who want to be obedient towards the holy church to let this evil of Saturday-keeping alone; and the rest we forbid under penalty of severe church punishment to keep Saturday holy (Dip. Norveg., 7, 397).

The Church Conference at Oslo in 1436 stated:
It is forbidden under the same penalty to keep Saturday holy by refraining from labour (History of the Norwegian Church etc., p. 401).

In 1544 the warning was reissued.
Some of you, contrary to the warning, keep Saturday. You ought to be severely punished. Whoever shall be found keeping Saturday, must pay a fine of ten marks (History of King Christian the Third, Niels Krag and S. Stephanius).

The practice extended into Finland and King Gustavus Vasa I of Sweden wrote to the people of Finland.
Some time ago we heard that some people in Finland had fallen into a great error and observed the seventh day, called Saturday (State Library at Helsingfors, Reichsregister, Vom. J., 1554, Teil B.B. leaf 1120, pp. 175-180a).

Sabbath-keeping in Germany and Holland was suppressed vigorously and many were martyred.

We had noted above the suppression of Sabbath-keeping in Belgium, centuries before the reformation. The Sabbath-keepers found refuge in Lichtenstein from about 1520, on the estate of Lord Leonhardt of Lichtenstein.

Part 5 of:
THE WARS of
GOG and MAGOG
 by Alexander Zephyr.

Extracts:

Listen to what Prophecy says:

          'After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the Mountains of Israel, which have been always waste; but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safety all of them' (Ezekiel 38:8).

          The pivotal points here are:
1. They (Judah and Ephraim, commonly called 'Israel' after the Reunification) must live safely, in a secure environment, all of them;
2. The Mountains of Israel are positively, without any shed of the doubt, identified as the land of the Gog's attack;
3. The Israelites will have been brought back from the sword from the nations of their exile (Rashi explains that the Israelites will return from Exile into which they had been driven by the sword). The Jews, for instance, were rescued (some of them) from the 'sword' of the Holocaust during  WWII.

... we learn that the People of Israel (Judah and Joseph) are reunited, return to the Promised Land (under the leadership of Messiah son of Joseph) from their countries of exile, rebuilt the wasted cities, and make the desolate land blossom as the Garden of Eden. The fact that they will have cattle and goods, gold and silver means that they will have developed a very healthy economy and high class commerce; and on top of it, the Israelites will feel confident and secure. They will live in their Land without fear because all the surrounding aggressive enemies will have been defeated and the territory of Biblical Israel restored to its previous borders.

3. Biblical Explanations of Brit-Am and Alexander Zephyr IS NOT according to mainstream Rabbinical accounts!!

We have been posting out a series of articles of the War of Gog and Magog by Alexander Zephyr.
These have aroused some interest.
On the whole, apart from a few points, the opinion of Alexander Zephyr corresponds with our own.
A few people have written us saying that while the simple meaning of the passages is as Alexander Zephyr describes it there are Christian sources that taken together with the Hebrew ones (in their opinion) suggest otherwise.
We do not know much about this and do not intend to go into it.
Nevertheless, it is only fair to admit that the Mainstream Rabbinical opinion is different from our own.
Since these matters do not involve any practical conclusions even religious Jews may feel free to have their own opinions on these issues.
There is such a thing however as Mainstream Rabbinical opinion.
This we would define as the view taken by most (but not necessarily all) leading Rabbinical authorities.
Their opinion is roughly that the Wars of Gog and Magog and the struggle against Esau and Ishmael etc are all part of one conflict.
The Vilna Gaon for instance is reported as saying that all nations of the earth may be classified as either on the side of Esau (Edom) or of Ishmael. There will be a struggle. Eventually Edom will be dominant and he will lead Gog and Magog against Israel. According to this it is all a question as to which aspects of the matter are being emphasized in Prophecy.

We may write a separate article (or group of articles) on this subject explaining the different viewpoints of prominent authorities.
