1. The Two Horns of Joseph: Ephraim and Manasseh
Midrash Breishit Rabah 99:9.
# Four Tribes from amongst the tribes of Israel were chosen to overcome the Four Kingdoms [in the Book of Daniel]:
The Tribe of Judah was destined to overcome Babylon, "Judah is a lion's whelp" (Genesis 49:9).
This was fulfilled through Daniel who was from the Tribe of Judah. Daniel ruled over Babylon and in the end brought about its downfall when he read the  writing on the wall (Daniel ch.5). The Tribe of Benjamin, the wolf (Genesis 49:27), was destined to overcome Persia. This was fulfilled through Mordecai who was an "
Ish Yamini" [i.e. a Benjamite, Ester 2:5]. The Tribe of Levi, which is the least populous of all the Tribes, was destined to overcome the Hellenistic Empire whose military forces were numerous. This was fulfilled by the Hasmoneans [i.e. Maccabees] who came from the Tribe of Levi, and the Greek [i.e. Hellenistic] hosts were delivered into their hands, "Many were delivered into the hands of the few" [Jewish Traditional Prayer Formulation
for
Hanuccah]. Moses spoke on this matter concerning Levi, "Strike the loins of those who rise against him" (Deuteronomy 33:11). The Tribe of Joseph is destined to overcome (in the Last Days) the Kingdom of Edom. The horns of Joseph, "his horns are the horns of the ream" [unicorn or wild ox]  (Deuteronomy 33:17). These [two horns] will break the ten horns of Edom. #

R. Meir Kahane devoted a section of his "Or Haraayon" to the subject of Moshiach ben Yosef, available in English in pt II of "The Jewish Idea".

Joel Bakst has written "The Secret Doctrine of the Vilna Gaon - Moshiach ben Yosef and the Messianic role of Torah, Kabbalah and Science" and now volume II "The Josephic Messiah, Leviathan, Metatron and the Sacred Serpent", available from http://www.chazonhatorah.org/store.htm
