Yair, FYI...Americans are peace-loving people. We avoid war at almost all costs, even to the point of isolationism. But, Americans have always hated injustice much more, and are willing to fight against tyranny when others were not. I would say that Ephrahim is most certainly Britain, not the USA. Ancient Manasseh also refused to enslave, occupy, and dominate the lands and peoples they conquered. America is still that way. Can't say that about the Brits though.

(a) Damon Casale:  *Everyone wants to be the chosen people.*
The reason why this is being presented at all -- and without any supporting evidence or the ability to answer claims to the contrary -- is the same reason we have the internecine struggles between Jews and Palestinians today.  *Everyone wants to be the chosen people.*  Everyone wants to be beloved of God, more favored, etc.  But we haven't learned from the lessons of the past.  What problems did the sons of Isaac and the sons of Jacob have as a result of favoritism?

God *does* have a chosen people, but they are chosen because they have a responsibility to serve others.  Read Exodus 19:3-6 and see -- a priest is someone who serves others, and the whole nation was called a nation of priests.

What we really have today is a lack of love in the world.  But God never intended "salvation" (both physical and spiritual, both in this life and in the next) to be an individual's task and burden alone.  God created a COMMUNITY of Israel to, as the New Testament says, "bear one another's burdens."  (Gal. 6:2; also contrast Isa. 1:9-31)  The trouble is, we don't any more, and that's why there are news stories every day filled with the pain and heartbreak that comes as a result of a lack of love and compassion.
When we are focusing more on being the chosen people than on serving others, we're missing the point.  LOVE *IS* THE POINT.  There *is* no other point.
The rest, as they say, is commentary.

(b) Margaret Weston: What was your answer?
What was your answer on all of Yisrael being black?  I couldn't find it.  Of course, I find it to be silly.

 Shalom Yair,

Either this man is a blithering idiot...and you are publicly showing it by publishing this...or you have a wicked sense of dry humor. Maybe both!

(d) Mark Robinson: Black Israelitism
Yair, Edgar Leonard is clearly a believer in Black Israelitism . This is a discredited sect that has been around for 100 years or more. They assert a very strange and unsubstantiated allocation of the 12 tribes to extant peoples of the western hemisphere (see http://www.religioustolerance.org/bhi.htm). I have a low tolerance for people who are compelled to follow the names of holy men with acronyms (mpbh: may peace be upon him). I believe this practice is intended to show how reverent the acronym user is (obviously more reverent than thou, O infidel), but to me it seems eminently disrespectful to cast lazy acronyms on the tail of great men every time their name falls from your lips. If someone does this in my presence, I will politely ask them to refrain, and then ask them to leave if they don't. ... Mark Robinson

Blog on UK. Israelis and USA
Shalom Yair,

I've done a blog about the British, Americans and Israelis as Ephraim, Manasseh and Judah that you may find of interest. It concerns the British-Israeli troubles over the effort by a British court to arrest Livni.

 5. Proverbs 17 (New King James Version)

 1 Better is a dry morsel with quietness,
      Than a house full of feasting[a]with strife.
       2 A wise servant will rule over a son who causes shame,
      And will share an inheritance among the brothers.
       3 The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold,
      But the LORD tests the hearts.
       4 An evildoer gives heed to false lips;
      A liar listens eagerly to a spiteful tongue.
       5 He who mocks the poor reproaches his Maker;
      He who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.
       6 Children?s children are the crown of old men,
      And the glory of children is their father.
       7 Excellent speech is not becoming to a fool,
      Much less lying lips to a prince.
       8 A present is a precious stone in the eyes of its possessor;
      Wherever he turns, he prospers.
       9 He who covers a transgression seeks love,
      But he who repeats a matter separates friends.
       10 Rebuke is more effective for a wise man
      Than a hundred blows on a fool.
       11 An evil man seeks only rebellion;
      Therefore a cruel messenger will be sent against him.
       12 Let a man meet a bear robbed of her cubs,
      Rather than a fool in his folly.
       13 Whoever rewards evil for good,
      Evil will not depart from his house.
       14 The beginning of strife is like releasing water;
      Therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts.
       15 He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just,
      Both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.
       16 Why is there in the hand of a fool the purchase price of wisdom,
      Since he has no heart for it?
       17 A friend loves at all times,
      And a brother is born for adversity.
       18 A man devoid of understanding shakes hands in a pledge,
      And becomes surety for his friend.
       19 He who loves transgression loves strife,
      And he who exalts his gate seeks destruction.
       20 He who has a deceitful heart finds no good,
      And he who has a perverse tongue falls into evil.
       21 He who begets a scoffer does so to his sorrow,
      And the father of a fool has no joy.
       22 A merry heart does good, like medicine,[b]
      But a broken spirit dries the bones.
       23 A wicked man accepts a bribe behind the back[c]
      To pervert the ways of justice.
       24 Wisdom is in the sight of him who has understanding,
      But the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.
       25 A foolish son is a grief to his father,
      And bitterness to her who bore him.
       26 Also, to punish the righteous is not good,
      Nor to strike princes for their uprightness.
       27 He who has knowledge spares his words,
      And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit.
       28 Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace;
      When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive.
