 From Elesham to Aylsham . . .

This history is reprinted courtesy of Broadland District Council. For information about walks and cycle leaflets in Broadland contact Broadland District Council at Thorpe Lodge, Yarmouth Road, Norwich NR7 0DU or phone  01601 431133It is thought that Aylshams history dates from around 500AD when a Saxon called Aegel (a common name) set up his homestead here. As Ham means homestead, the new village would have been known as Aegels Ham. About 300 years later, when the Danes arrived, the village would have been sufficiently well established to keep its Saxon name.Aylshams known history dates back to pre-Norman times. It was recorded as Elesham in the Domesday Book and had around 2370 cultivated acres, 25 of meadow and 640 of woodland. The remaining 1000 acres was wild. Almost 1000 years on there have been so few changes to the area of the parish that today it covers some 4329 acres. At the time of the Norman Conquest the manor was held by Guert, a noble of Danish origin and a large Norfolk landowner. It is thought that Guert was killed at Hastings and his estates became the property of William I. The manor of Aylsham was then bestowed to a Norman, Ralph Guader, Earl of Norfolk. When he too turned against King William the manor was taken back by the crown. From this time until the reign of Charles I it was held by the monarchy who granted it to a series of tenants.

2.  Bill Rasmussen: More Rabbinic Sources

Shabbat Shalom v'l'shana tova Yair!  Just got my copy of Brit Am Truth.  All I can say is "fantastic".  What a superb job you have done.  My prayers are with you to continue your excellent work.

On another note, upon reading the Torah portion for this week-Rosh ha Shanah, I noticed something quite interesting that I believe you have commented on previously.  In Jeremiah 31:14, there is mention of Rachel weeping for her children: "So said HaShem: A voice was heard on high-wailing, bitter weeping-Rachel weeps for her children, she refuses to be consoled for her children, for they are gone."  The Stone Edition Chumash makes this interesting note: "In the simple interpretation of that verse, "Rachel" means the ten tribes, because their leading tribe, Ephraim, descended from Rachel.  Before the redemption occurs, these tribes will weep bitterly over their prolonged and painful exile, because-whereas Judah and Benjamin returned to build the Second Temple-the Ten Tribes remianed in exile [Radak]."

Rashi, citing a Midrash Aggadah, tells of Rachel coming before G-d, weeping, and tells G-d that she had allowed a rival to come into her [future] household.  Rachel then appeals to G-d by saying, "You, O G-d should do the same, although your children have brought a rival [i.e. Manasseh's idol] into your Temple, may you be silent."  G-d told her, "You have defended them well."  As the next two verses continue, G-d promised Rachel that the exile would eventually end and the Jewish people [i.e. the Ten Tribes] would be returned to their land.

There are many Rabbinic sources, especially the most well known and respected such as Rashi, who confirm and corroborate what you have been saying lately.  I hasten to add that all who believe they are Israelites should be reading the Torah portion every week.  I highly recommend the Stone Edition Chumash, as its beautiful style and layout makes the Torah portion a delight each week.

  3. Woodrow Lovett: English not Angels ?

Subject: "Brit-Am Now"-300 1. Mel Gibson

Mr. Gibson was very gentle on the English. Thomas Farnsley Lovett who was my ancestor was executed after capture in the American Revolution. They cut is head off. and threw his body in the Savannah River.William Bragg who was my ancestor was captured at the battle of  Dunbar in 1650 was sold into penal servitude, and shipped to Barbados. Bragg was not his real name they changed it from something else.  In 1651 William was purchased by Wingfield Webb and Richard Pate, and went to work at St. Michaels Parish, Barbados, where he died and buried june 4, 1678. In 1680 his wife and three children were sold as servants and sent to Carteret County, North Carolina. As for Mr.. Gibson being anti Semitic I don't know.

4. Rebecca Heckel: Comment on British

Hi, Yair-

I saw "The Patriot" and like you, I thought that perhaps some of thebrutality exercised by the British might have been ramped up for the movie.I was stunned to learn that, in fact, there were incidents that occurred, just as in the movie, where the British did do some horrendous things to the "colonials".  They made no distinction between men, women and children,I might add.

Just goes to show that we aren't always taught the brutal facts in school, and all could stand to brush up on our history.

BTW-I will go see The Passion.  I am a born-again Christian and a lover of Jews and of Israel.  They are by no means mutually exclusive.  : )

Blessings,

6. Biblical Proof  no. 29: Representative Democracy

In Biblical Proof  no. 28: Nobilitywe saw how the name Ephraim and Ephrathi (meaning someone from Ephraim) connoted nobility as pertaining to Britain. On the other hand the name Manasseh pertains to Democratic Responsible Representation as endorsed by the USA.

[Genesis 41:51] AND JOSEPH CALLED THE NAME OF THE FIRSTBORN MANASSEH: FOR GOD, SAID HE, HATH MADE ME FORGET ALL MY TOIL, AND ALL MY FATHER'S HOUSE.

Adapted and summarized from Joseph

MANASSEH

THE NAME "MENASSEH" IN HEBREW ENCAPSULATES THE MEANING OF NORTH AMERICAN DEMOCRACY!

The Patriarch Joseph son of Israel had two sons, Ephraim and Menasseh, whose names testified to aspects of their national destiny:

"AND UNTO JOSEPH WERE BORN TWO SONS BEFORE THE YEARS OF FAMINE CAME, WHICH ASENATH THE DAUGHTER OF POTIPHERA PRIEST OF ON BARE UNTO HIM.

"AND JOSEPH CALLED THE NAME OF THE FIRSTBORN MANASSEH: FOR GOD HAS CAUSED ME TO FORGET [Hebrew: Nashani] ALL MY TROUBLES AND MY FATHER'S FAMILY (Genesis 41;5051).

Rabbi Hirsch (in free translation) says:

[Genesis 41;51:`.."Forget" is not the only meaning of "Nosheh". "Nosheh" also means: to be the bearer of a claim, to be a creditor.

[Genesis 32;33:]`"Nosheh" ...to have body or property in another's trust. Thus the "NoSHeH" (Creditor) has passed to another person part of his property and as a result he demands something from him...a woman in the singular [Hebrew: "Ishah"] ...complements (her husband) and stands by his side as an equal. In the plural [i.e. in the plural name for women, "NoSHim"], however, is revealed the communal status of woman. The woman surrenders some of her rights to the man and these rights are represented by him. Only in the mass, in the life of the general whole group, do women reveal themselves as weak and lacking resourcefulness. Women, however, are "Noshim" (i.e. "creditors") with a claim [to be represented] on the husband who owes it to them [S.R. Hirsch on Genesis 32;33].

Explanation: In Hebrew a man is  "ISH" and a woman is "Ishah" i.e. the feminine form of "ish" (man) is apparently "ishah" i.e. "woman". The normal feminine plural form is formed by adding the suffix "oth" and so the plural of "ishah" ("woman") should be "ishoth" but it is not so. Contrary to the usual format, the plural form of "ishah" in Hebrew is "noshim" which appears identical to the plural form of "Nosheh" and therefore may be understood to mean "creditors" and upon this anomaly Rabbi Hirsch based his interpretation.

Rabbi Hirsch was basing himself on the assumption of Hebrew Law in which women were not counted in the aggregate as separate entities but as being represented by their husbands. They were therefore in sense electors of their husbands who represent them and are responsible to and for them. Rabbi Hirsch finds this same principle repeated in the use made of the name Manasseh which he says is derived from the same root-word. Manasseh  in Hebrew is Manasheh and is built up from the word components Ma-Nasheh. Noshe  means to have a claim on the responsibility of another, or have a claim for representation: MaNasseh can mean make a representative responsible for;  OR Menasseh  as a noun or name can mean the principle of responsible representation.

The relevant verse regarding the name MENASSEH, Genesis 41;51, says:

<<And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God has caused me to forget [Hebrew: Nashani] all my troubles and my father's family (Genesis 41;5051).

S.R. Hirsch on the above states that "nashani" does not mean "forget" in case of the name "Menasseh" (Genesis 41;51 continued) but rather delegated representation:

In the light of the above observations and the Commentary of Rabbi S.R. Hirsch, the verse (Genesis 41;512) may be reformulated  and understood as saying:

"And he called the name of the firstborn Menasseh: for of all my troubles and [loss of] my father's family, God has made representative agents  [Hebrew: "nashani"=] acting on my behalf and to whom I am obliged"*.

* It should be remarked that in Hebrew a wordroot can connote both a direct action and its reversal. "Nasheh" can imply putting something of one's own in the domain of someone else and therefore having a claim on that person or alternately "nosheh" connotes the claim others have on oneself. The form "Menasseh"  is a name indicating "nosheh" more in the affirmative active manner of making responsible representation for oneself.

"MENASSEH" actually means "RESPONSIBLE REPRESENTATION OBLIGATING THE REPRESENTED"!

The American War of Independence began over the principle of: 'No Taxation Without Representation!', and the American system and life-style and ethical system is built on this principle. Only the USA attaches such significance to these principles since only for Manasseh are they part of its very being.

  7. Prophecy  as a whole in Context:

We study the Prophets verse after verse as we do in our Bible Study or we study individual concepts as found in different verses in passages unrelated to each other as we do in our Biblical Proofs.  Both types of study are necessary but in both cases we are in danger of  losing the import of studying segments as whole units. The following passage was one of those that are read in the  Synagogue over Rosh HaShana and it struck how strong the message really is when seen in its context.  The following passage from Jeremiah 31 says, according to our understanding, that people who practice the Christian religion (Notsrim) from the Lost Ten Tribes (Ephraim) will decide to go up to Zion to return  to the God of Israel. They will arrive in modern forms of transport that enable even the disabled and the woman giving birth to travel. They will come from the North Country (America) and from the peninsulas  (translated as "coasts"). They will be very numerous and include many from  Britain [John Bull i.e. A BULLOCK [Aegel]  UNACCUSTOMED TO THE YOKE]. The WAYMARKS, and the HIGH HEAPS are the dolmens and archaeological and  historical proofs that will help confirm the Biblical evidences and  spiritual conviction. Brit-Am is attempting to do (or endeavors to attempt  to do) its part in these fields from the academic perspective..

[Jeremiah 31:6] FOR THERE SHALL BE A DAY, THAT THE WATCHMEN [Notsrim,  Christians] UPON THE MOUNT [country of] EPHRAIM SHALL CRY, ARISE YE, AND  LET US GO UP TO ZION UNTO THE LORD OUR GOD.

[Jeremiah 31:7] FOR THUS SAITH THE LORD; SING WITH GLADNESS FOR JACOB, AND  SHOUT AMONG THE CHIEF OF THE NATIONS: PUBLISH YE, PRAISE YE, AND SAY, O  LORD, SAVE THY PEOPLE, THE REMNANT OF ISRAEL.

[Jeremiah 31:8] BEHOLD, I WILL BRING THEM FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY, AND  GATHER THEM FROM THE COASTS [peninsulas] OF THE EARTH, AND WITH THEM THE  BLIND AND THE LAME, THE WOMAN WITH CHILD AND HER THAT TRAVAILETH  WITH  CHILD TOGETHER: A GREAT COMPANY SHALL RETURN  THITHER.

[Jeremiah 31:9] THEY SHALL COME WITH WEEPING, AND WITH SUPPLICATIONS WILL I  LEAD THEM: I WILL CAUSE THEM TO WALK BY THE RIVERS OF WATERS IN A STRAIGHT  WAY, WHEREIN THEY SHALL NOT STUMBLE: FOR I AM A FATHER TO ISRAEL, AND  EPHRAIM IS MY FIRSTBORN.

[Jeremiah 31:10] HEAR THE WORD OF THE LORD, O YE NATIONS, AND DECLARE IT IN  THE ISLES AFAR OFF, AND SAY, HE THAT SCATTERED ISRAEL WILL GATHER HIM, AND  KEEP HIM, AS A SHEPHERD DOTH HIS FLOCK.

[Jeremiah 31:11] FOR THE LORD HATH REDEEMED JACOB, AND RANSOMED HIM FROM  THE HAND OF HIM THAT WAS STRONGER THAN HE.

[Jeremiah 31:12] THEREFORE THEY SHALL COME AND SING IN THE HEIGHT OF ZION,  AND SHALL FLOW TOGETHER TO THE GOODNESS OF THE LORD, FOR WHEAT, AND FOR  WINE, AND FOR OIL, AND FOR THE YOUNG OF THE FLOCK AND OF THE HERD: AND THEIR SOUL SHALL BE AS A WATERED GARDEN; AND THEY SHALL NOT SORROW ANY MORE  AT ALL.

[Jeremiah 31:13] THEN SHALL THE VIRGIN REJOICE IN THE DANCE, BOTH YOUNG MEN  AND OLD TOGETHER: FOR I WILL TURN THEIR MOURNING INTO JOY, AND WILL COMFORT  THEM, AND MAKE THEM REJOICE FROM THEIR SORROW.

[Jeremiah 31:14] AND I WILL SATIATE THE SOUL OF THE PRIESTS WITH FATNESS,  AND MY PEOPLE SHALL BE SATISFIED  WITH MY GOODNESS, SAITH THE  LORD.

[Jeremiah 31:15] THUS SAITH THE LORD; A VOICE WAS HEARD IN RAMAH,  LAMENTATION, AND BITTER WEEPING; RAHEL WEEPING FOR HER CHILDREN REFUSED TO  BE COMFORTED FOR HER CHILDREN, BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT.

[Jeremiah 31:16] THUS SAITH THE LORD; REFRAIN THY VOICE FROM WEEPING, AND  THINE EYES FROM TEARS: FOR THY WORK SHALL BE REWARDED, SAITH THE LORD; AND  THEY SHALL COME AGAIN FROM THE LAND OF THE  ENEMY.

[Jeremiah 31:17] AND THERE IS HOPE IN THINE END, SAITH THE LORD, THAT THY  CHILDREN SHALL COME AGAIN TO  THEIR OWN BORDER.

[Jeremiah 31:18] I HAVE SURELY HEARD EPHRAIM BEMOANING HIMSELF THUS; THOU  HAST CHASTISED ME, AND I WAS CHASTISED, AS A BULLOCK [Aegel]  UNACCUSTOMED  TO THE YOKE: TURN THOU ME, AND I SHALL BE TURNED; FOR THOU ART THE LORD MY GOD.

[Jeremiah 31:19] SURELY AFTER THAT I WAS TURNED, I REPENTED; AND AFTER THAT  I WAS INSTRUCTED, I SMOTE UPON MY THIGH: I WAS ASHAMED, YEA, EVEN  CONFOUNDED, BECAUSE I DID BEAR THE REPROACH OF MY  YOUTH.

[Jeremiah 31:20] IS EPHRAIM MY DEAR SON? IS HE A PLEASANT CHILD? FOR SINCE  I SPAKE AGAINST HIM, I DO EARNESTLY REMEMBER HIM STILL: THEREFORE MY BOWELS  ARE TROUBLED FOR HIM; I WILL SURELY HAVE MERCY UPON HIM, SAITH THE  LORD.

[Jeremiah 31:21] SET THEE UP WAYMARKS [dolmens], MAKE THEE HIGH HEAPS  [cairns] : SET THINE HEART TOWARD THE HIGHWAY [paths of migration], EVEN  THE WAY WHICH THOU WENTEST [historical proofs]: TURN AGAIN, [historical  proof can also lead to spiritual awareness and God tells us to take these  proofs to heart] O VIRGIN OF ISRAEL, TURN AGAIN TO THESE THY  CITIES.
