1. Phoenician Cadiz,
'Europe's oldest city' is found
By Elizabeth Nash in Madrid

Published: 09 October 2007
Archaeologists in Spain's southern port of Cadiz believe they have found remains which prove that it is Europe's oldest inhabited city ? Phoenician Gadir, or Gades in Roman times.

Remnants of walls have emerged seven metres deep in a dig beneath Cadiz's old town centre which have been dated to the 8th century BC. Scientists found shards of Phoenician pottery, and pieces of jars, bowls and plates once used in everyday life which all point towards the existence of a town. A well-preserved bronze brooch has also appeared, suggesting a high level of civilisation. Previous finds, including funeral relics, did not provide conclusive evidence of urban settlement.

"We need to excavate further to see where these walls go," said the director of the dig, Juan Miguel Pajuelo. "The existence of items of daily use suggests the walls were of houses."

Historians have long known that Cadiz was founded by Phoenician traders more than 3,000 years ago as their first settlement in Europe.

Mariners from Tyre in today's Lebanon established Gadir as a transit point for minerals brought from the Rio Tinto mines further north. The Romans later developed Gades as a naval base, and the poet Martial praised the city's dancing girls.

But until now, no one has established exactly where Gadir (meaning "the fortress") was. Scientists in the 1970s uncovered traces of a Phoenician settlement near Santa Maria del Puerto, to the north on the Guadalete river, but not quite the remains of a town. More recently, archaeologists in Chiclana, 16 miles south-east, found remains of Phoenician walls and traces of a temple.

Scientists from the three sites lay rival claims to Gadir. But Jose Maria Gener, who began the dig in the town centre 12 years ago, is sure it is the most likely location. "In Chiclana," he said, "they still have to establish if their findings are Phoenician or an earlier indigenous settlement."

2. A Goth from Sweden Confirms Brit-Am identifications
From: Bo Ronn <boronn@netmail.mu>
Subject: Re: Brit-Am Now 986, Lasse Martinsen, Some Tribal Identifications.

Good Day,
I think Brit-Am is most correct with the tribal identifications. The south part of Sweden
is called Gotaland (Gothia), Gad?s land and there are also the Baltic Sea island of Gotland
and the city of Gothenburg. The middle part of Sweden is called Svealand (Suiones? land)
also a gothic tribe. The northern part of Sweden is called Norrland (North Land) with a
population mainly originating from Svealand, G taland, Finland and Norway.

Three provinces of South Gothia (Halland, Scania and Blekinge) belonged formerly to
Denmark, so it is probably a mixture of Goths and Danes living together. In Scania they use
an unofficial flag consisting of a red field with a yellow cross (half Danish and half Swedish),
in fact showing who they are.

The tribe of Asher is surely well represented in all the Scandinavian countries as we all have
historical links to Scotland and the rest of Britain and Ireland.

I am born in Scania of South Gothia, Skytts H rad (Scythes District) so I call myself a Goth
and have paternal links to the north of Sweden and the coastlands and islands of Finland.
One thing for sure I must live and work on the sea otherwise I feel imprisoned.
It should be added that in Skytts H rad there are numerous ancient dolmens, cairns and rune
stones. However, similar traces are found all over Scandinavia.
SHALOM, and thanks to Yair Davidiy and Brit-Am for opening the eyes of us dull Scandinavians.

#4. Thomas Gray: "to get together and do something"

Dear Yair,
Another person has mentioned, "What can we do when we have the information."
I really believe that the Brit-am message is fine to give out but many have been hearing it for a long time. And therefore it becomes irrelevant to their lives with no further steps to take in reconciliation.  I personally can give information when there is a genuine interest but it is like trying to sell people something. Unless they have a need for your product, they are just not interested. For 50 years I have known I belong to Israel and so I know many have sensed an awakening during that time and have a sense of what do I do with this information.

And so generally speaking, those who are of Israel have been becoming aware of it without anyone's message for some time. What they are happy to find out is that they are not the only one that has sensed this call back to the land and to God's people who are already there.

I too have sensed 'what can I do' since the door is tight and seems to be getting tighter by the weeks and days from all the news that I read. What I sense God wants me to do is be prepared for what is ahead immediately.  If Judah could forgive their perceived enemies, this takes Divine help because only God has an abundance of Mercy and Loving Kindness, then I believe all the positive things that are said in Ezekiel 36 would come to pass quite quickly because it seems obvious to me that God wants the whole house of Israel (Judah and Israel) in the land before he pours out his Spirit and cleanses our hearts.  If Judah doesn't want to make that move soon, then we will see a lot more wars with neighbors or whatever is involved in the 9th chapter of Zechariah. We cannot change Judah or make them want to accept us. They are who they are and we must accept them that way. If God wants them to be a good bow that holds the arrows then he will have to show them what that means and what he wants of them. Our Father is far more patient with us all then all of us combined are able to be patient.

Therefore, I am seeking the Lord to cleanse my heart and purify it and that is difficult, because it is so hard to see what roadblocks I have put in the way of that process. However, he is calling for us and he calls us his arrows. And we need to know what arrows do because that is going to give us a clue as to how he will use us.  Another thing we need to study how God fights his enemies.  We are told that the person who fights with the sword will die by the sword.  Knowing how merciful and generous God is; my guess is that he wants to soften and break down the hard hearts of his enemies so that they will turn from their wicked ways and be saved. A thought; maybe the arrows are used to shoot the Word of God into the hearts of the people. Meditation and study of God's word will prepare us to be good straight arrow. Asking God to fill our hearts with his loving kindness and forgiveness will be a good place to start. This is one of the things I know to do besides always pray that God's will shall be done.

4. Jews in Scotland?
Edward (1239-1307) of England expelled the Jews in 1290.
He then waged war against the Scots and invaded their country.
I once saw a quotation from a Scottish source (Henry Boece?) saying
that Jewish children had been kidnapped from the expelled Jews in England
(similarly to what happened later in Portugal) and brought to Scotland.
A search on the Internet failed to give me a confirmation of this source.
The source is also not found in the book,
"When Scotland Was Jewish.
DNA Analysis, Archaeology, Analysis of Migrations, and Public and Family Records Show Twelfth Century Semitic Roots"
by Elizabeth Caldwell Hirschman and Donald N. Yates,  2007, USA.
This work claims that Scotland to a significant degree was "Jewish" from the 1100s CE
onwards.
We have obtained a copy of this book and may publish a detailed review of it in
a forthcoming issue of our magazine, "Brit-Am TRUTH".
We are still reading the book through.
So far the book is a disappointment even though our expectations were not high to begin with.
Even so, the very fact that the work was written and by virtue of its title has received some
attention indicates a growing interest in this subject.

There WAS some kind of tradition of a Jewish presence in Scotland.

In our work "Lost Israelite Identity", and in "Ephraim" we have mentioned this.

"You know how considerable a part of the British inhabitants are the undoubted offspring of the Jews and how many worthy prelates of this same stock, not to speak of Lords and commoners, may at this time make an illustrious figure among us....A great number of 'em fled to Scotland which is the reason so many in that part of the Island have a remarkable aversion to pork and black puddings to this day, not to insist on some other resemblances easily observable.."
