1. Thomas Gray: an excellent point
Re: Weekly Portion: "VaYera"
http://britam.org/Genesis/Gen18to22VaYera.html
[Genesis 18:13] AND THE LORD SAID UNTO ABRAHAM, WHEREFORE DID SARAH LAUGH, SAYING, SHALL I OF A SURETY BEAR A CHILD, WHICH AM OLD?
#The Sages point out that Sarah had actually laughed at the idea of both her and her husband bearing a child in their old age. God however did not repeat to Abraham that Sarah had included his chronological situation in her amusement. God was careful not to upset the harmony between husband and wife. God Himself set us an example that we should follow: Sensitivity, decency, compassion and concern for others and their feelings. Try not to arouse superfluous conflicts or tensions.#

This is an excellent point, Yair.  I plan to include this observation the next time I teach through Genesis, and more importantly, I'll see if I can include this in my life in a consistent way.

Thomas Gray.

2. Larkland Morley: Brit-Am blatantly lying?

Hello:

Without getting into any argument about your website http://www.britam.org/, there seem to be a lot of inaccuracies on there.

For example, you seem to be so focus on proving that Israelites are mostly white people to extent of blatantly lying to support that view.

Lets assume they are white, why don't you think some of them would have migrated into Africa and mix in with the population there.

The more I read this type of stuff, the more it tells me that instead of people focus on loving one another, they are so set on putting down others for whatever reason. Come on, God knows the truth, I am sure you not doing to this for him.

In summary, being objective its hard to prove today what the Israelites may have look liked in Origin, first of all they mixed up a lot during captivity etc.. I would not contend that they are purely one race today, either black or whitish.

Anyway, take care

Larkland

Brit-Am Reply:
Our article on Lost Israelites being white people is one article out of more than a thousand.
We have another two or three articles along the same lines but that still leaves a lot more concerning other matters.
It is true however that these articles are consistently amongst the most-frequently viewed on our site.
This is because others (including yourself evidently) have an interest in the subject.
You claim we are "blatantly lying", please be specific.
What points exactly do you consider untrue?
We never denied the possibility that some Israelites or Judeans went to Africa and assimilated there.
You will find references to this possibility in our writings though admittedly it is something we do not emphasize.
For example,
Brit-Am Now no. 1330: The Lost Tribes of Israel
http://britam.org/now/1330Now.html#Dan
#5. Dan in Africa?
#Elements from Dan may have gone to Ethiopia and other parts of Africa.#
[This example we picked out at random but if you have to time to go through findings from our on-line Brit-Am site search engine
http://www.britam.org/SearchEngines.html
You will probably find quite a few additional examples.]

We do not intend to put down anyone.

Our understanding of Scripture is that the Lost Ten Tribes will be mainly be CONCENTRATED amongst certain peoples.
We identify these peoples.
They happen to be mostly white now no matter what you may wish to say they were originally.
[We believe they were mostly white then too but as you say it does not matter that much.]
In addition to all this both these Israelite Peoples and the Jews of Judah (some of whom are definitely not white, while others are)
are in danger.

Amongst the forces endangering them are included Muslims and foreign peoples and others many of whom are colored.

Brit-Am does not consider itself a racist organization and is not generally so considered by others.
We have an article against Discrimination on the front page of our site displayed just as prominently as the other articles,
see:

The Black Woman.
Color Prejudice Condemned by the Torah
http://www.britam.org/CushiteWoman.html

We are also active in condemning and countering the claims of racist white-supremacy Identity types.
We have received threats from these peoples as well as from Muslims and others.
We are not prejudiced and quite prepared to take on everybody if necessary.

Subject: Correction of note 3. Mormons Identify as Dan?
RE "Brit-Am Now"-521 the mormons: Danites??
First the statement:
#3. Mormons Identify as Dan?
http://britam.org/now/521Now.html
From: john ross
Subject: Ephraim

Dan
Dan is easily represented by Samson, who Giorgio de Santillana referred to as: the "boor", the "brave, swift, impetuous male" (i.e., the planet Mars).

It is interesting to note that the Mormon Church (LDS) has co-opted for itself the name of the tribe of Dan (calling themselves the Danites), in hopes of leading a presumed-to-be-upcoming apocalypse.

Now the correction.
The above quotation has no source, other than John Ross. What qualifications does he possess which makes him qualified to make such an outlandish claim? He is neither a General Authorilty of the Church nor a church historian. May I correct the "interesting note" which is really a misrepresentation:

During the early Mormon persecutions of the mid 1800s, there existed for a short period of time a very, very, small number of men who took upon themselves the name "Danites" -  presumably because they considered themselves "brave and impetous" in their determination to set aright the wrongs which had been committed against the church as a body. (These were a bible believing and bible studying group of men who, I presume, chose the name for the very reason mentioned in the above assertion.) They were, more or less, like unto a small group of men who, having given up on the legal system, decided to protect themselves against unwarranted attacks upon themselves and the church. The Church itself did not get involved. Enemies of the church have attempted over the years to make the Danites appear to be some kind of monolothic, church sponsored, vigilante group who would swoop down upon the peaceful citizens of an area and destroy them. A boogey man, to be sure.  The Mormon church has not "co-opted for itself the name of the tribe of Dan nor did this little group of Danites believe that they were "leading a presumed-to-be upcoming apocalypse." The church did not view this as any kind of upcoming apocalypse either.  Search the official records of the church as well as the literature created within the church of that period and you will find no references to the church "co-opting" the name of Dan.  They did not consider themselves "Danites."
The Mormon church did then, and does now, consider that it has the keys for the gathering of Israel - all of Israel - not just the tribe of Dan. Quoting from one Mormon scripture:

"We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign pesonally upon the earth; and the the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory." (Articles of Faith, # 10)
The majority of the members of the church today believe that they are of the lineage of Joseph through Ephraim and also Manassah. However, other tribes are increasingly coming into the church.
