1. Question Concerning the "Missing 12th Tribe"?
Paul Mueller wrote:
Re: seeking 12/10 tribe info

Read part of your website (will read much more) and find it to be informative.

I am a Christian (cat. 1- you always have my sympathy) just beginning to teach Bible study. I have a specific question which I will ask you or is there a forum?

Question:    Judah is referred to separately from the lost 10 tribes. Judah + 10=11. Who or Where is the 12th tribe?

Thank you
Paul Mueller

Brit-Am Reply:
The "12 tribe" is Benjamin.
Benjamin was together with Judah in the Kingdom of Judah which is often referred to simply as "Judah".

[1-Kings 12:20] AND IT CAME TO PASS, WHEN ALL ISRAEL HEARD THAT JEROBOAM WAS COME AGAIN, THAT THEY SENT AND CALLED HIM UNTO THE CONGREGATION, AND MADE HIM KING OVER  ALL ISRAEL: THERE WAS NONE THAT FOLLOWED THE HOUSE OF DAVID, BUT THE TRIBE OF JUDAH ONLY.

[1-Kings 12:21] AND WHEN REHOBOAM WAS COME TO JERUSALEM, HE ASSEMBLED ALL THE HOUSE OF JUDAH, WITH THE TRIBE OF BENJAMIN, AN HUNDRED AND FOURSCORE THOUSAND CHOSEN MEN, WHICH WERE WARRIORS, TO FIGHT AGAINST THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL, TO BRING THE KINGDOM AGAIN TO REHOBOAM THE SON OF SOLOMON.

We see here that even though it says (in 1-Kings 12:20) that there only remained THE TRIBE OF JUDAH ONLY
in effect this included ALL THE HOUSE OF JUDAH, WITH THE TRIBE OF BENJAMIN (1-Kings 12:21).
There were actually 13 tribes since Joseph became the two tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh.
Later most of the Tribe of Levi also joined Judah.

[2-Chronicles 11:13] AND THE PRIESTS AND THE LEVITES THAT WERE IN ALL ISRAEL RESORTED TO HIM [i.e. to Rehoboam King of Judah] OUT OF ALL THEIR COASTS.

[2-Chronicles 11:14] FOR THE LEVITES LEFT THEIR SUBURBS AND THEIR POSSESSION, AND CAME TO JUDAH AND JERUSALEM: FOR JEROBOAM AND HIS SONS HAD CAST THEM OFF FROM EXECUTING THE PRIEST'S OFFICE UNTO THE LORD:

Still later over the course of time individuals from the Northern Kingdom returned to Judah and settled in it.
When the Assyrians conquered the Northern Kingdom and exiled its inhabitants there were also refugees from the north
who came into Judah.
These varying elements were all present in the Kingdom of Judah and from these emerged the core element of the Jewish people.

2. The Weekly Portion (Parshat HaShavua: VaYechi)
VaYechi
Genesis chs.47:28 to 50
The Blessings to Ephraim and Manasseh and the Tribes of Israel
Extract:
[Genesis 49:1] AND JACOB CALLED UNTO HIS SONS, AND SAID, GATHER YOURSELVES TOGETHER, THAT I MAY TELL YOU THAT WHICH SHALL BEFALL YOU IN THE LAST DAYS.
IN THE LAST DAYS: This prophecy was pertinent to the Latter Time prior to the Messianic Era. Many believe that we are in the times spoken of. The Commentary "Sfat Emet" (R. Yehudah Arye Leib of Gur, 1847-1895) points out that these final blessings follow on from the blessing to Joseph and that in effect all the tribes receive their blessing through that given to Joseph.

5. Israelite Origins Expressed in Dutch Art of the 1600s?

DUTCH AND FLEMISH PAINTING OF THE 16TH-17TH CENTURIES
http://www.nga.gov/collection/gallery/dutch.shtm
Extract:
##The political and religious attitudes of the period are not readily apparent in the work of Dutch artists. The still lifes, portraits, landscapes, seascapes, and genre scenes that characterize this school of painting are surprisingly lacking in information on the major events of the day. Nevertheless, the philosophical bases from which artists worked are clearly the same as those governing decisions in contemporary political, military, and religious activities. This ideology was essentially threefold: that God's work is evident in the world itself; that, although things in this world are mortal and transitory, no facet of God's creation is too insubstantial to be noticed, valued, or represented; and that the Dutch, like the ancient Israelites, were a chosen people, favored and blessed by God's protection.##
