1. Joseph and Judah: What Can We Already Agree On?
Recently we had a meeting with an Ephraimite leader.
He said that Ephraimites have already heard from Yair Davidiy and Steven Collins about their ancestry.
They have read the books. Now they want more.
They do not wish just to keep hearing lectures.
They favor an emotional approach. They feel something like Divine Inspiration that confirms that they are Israelites and wish to communicate with others who feel the same and with whom they can share this experience.
They also want to communicate with Judah.
To seek a common ground of agreement for dialoguing.
This Ephraimite Leader (who probably for the moment would prefer to remain anonymous but may change his mind later) has a reasonable following and seems to express not only his own feelings but also those of other Ephraimites. We have heard similar sentiments from others.

Our reaction is that:
We try to spread the message frequently partly amongst Judah and Joseph with the emphasis on Joseph.
There is resistance and sometimes even hostility towards our message.
Those who are against us are often good people, well-learned, and scholarly.
Otherwise they are simply intelligent individuals who take a practical approach to life.

We find a need to constantly re-affirm our beliefs, strengthen and refine them.
We do this not only to be able to reach out to others but also for our own sakes.
We need to believe and to re-confirm our beliefs.

We cannot see how one can promote a belief and expect others to also do so without good knowledge of what the belief entails and what evidence supports it.
Apparently certain "Ephraimites" do not feel this need so much.
They seem to rely on their inspired enthusiasm having a contagious effect and maybe it does.
It could be that Brit-Am concentrates too much on rationality and directs its attentions to the wrong audiences?

Perhaps people know in the deeper recesses of their heart that something is true and they only need to see this truth expressed by others to become conscious of it themselves?
It takes all kinds.
We would like to hear what our subscribers may have to say on this subject.

As to points that we may already have in common and that it may be possible to speak of and act here is a list of suggestions.

2. Parshat haShavua (Weekly Portion): Mikaetz
Genesis chapters 41 to 44
Textual Commentary:
http://britam.org/Genesis/Gen41to44Mikaet.html
Extract:
[Genesis 41:38] AND PHARAOH SAID UNTO HIS SERVANTS, CAN WE FIND SUCH A ONE AS THIS IS, A MAN IN WHOM THE SPIRIT OF GOD IS?
Joseph spoke the truth. This truth may have been recognized by those who heard it as what they themselves in their subconscious had realized but could not express. Words of truth strike true. The Ancient Egyptians in many ways were on a high level.
[Genesis 41:39] AND PHARAOH SAID UNTO JOSEPH, FORASMUCH AS GOD HATH SHEWED THEE ALL THIS, THERE IS NONE SO DISCREET AND WISE AS THOU ART:
Pharaoh was ruler of the land. In a sense he was the soul of the place ruled over. The dreams he had were expressing something in his subconscious that he was aware of but could not express. He therefore instinctively recognized the truth of the solutions of Joseph as soon as he heard them. Commentators point out that Egypt was a land of magicians and specialists in the occult and in the hidden aspects of the human psyche such as dreams. The dreams and their solutions are not so far apart. Part of the miracle in the revelation of Joseph was that this truth had been hidden from the wise men of Egypt in order to bring Joseph to the fore.
Joseph was a good man, a saint, who suffered because he told the truth, and because he refused to sin but through this suffering he was elevated. We should take note of this and bear it in mind. In Rabbinical Literature Joseph is referred to as Yosef HaTsadik i.e. Joseph the Righteous who did not succumb to sexual temptation and kept the faith with His God.

3. Max Rambow:  The Identity of Israel is the Truth
From: Max Rambow <irmrambow@yahoo.com>
Re: Brit-Am Now no. 1274

The plain fact of the matter is that the identity of Israel is the truth. Whether one believes it or not or whether one couches it in conspiratorial language matters not. Anyone who feels elevated by being Israelite needs to look at how many times the Almighty says he would like to wipe us off the face of the earth. We have nothing to stand on except G-d's mercy. Praise be to Him.
Sincerely Max Rambow

4. Ephraimite Tartan Kippas?
From: mcleods@bellsouth.net
Subject: The Kippah

Yair,

Chanukah Sameach!

Here's an idea to promote the restoration of Israeli consciousness: kippahs made of tartan design.
Those of Celtic ancestry who identify with Israel can wear a kippah made from the tartan of their respective clans. My wife made me a McLeod kippah, and I enjoy wearing it. It proclaims my Israeli identity and my solidarity with Israel the land and Israel the people.

Shalom oovracha,

Stephen
