Amsterdam - More than 1000 people commemorated the 1941 February Strike in Amsterdam yesterday. They held a parade on the Jonas Dani? Meijerplein and laid wreaths before the statue of The Dock Worker. The statue symbolises the thousands of workers who, 67 years ago, stopped worked in protest at the German treatment of the Jews.

During the commemoration, MP Gerdi Verbeet delivered a brief speech, while cabaret performer Sanne Wallis de Vries read out several poems.

The Committee for the Commemoration of the February Strike also wanted to use the commemoration to protest against racism and intolerance in today's society.
