1. IrelandProposed names for Early Milesian Irish mean
 "Outside, Separated People"

Proposed origin for the names Gaeil/Gwyddelod/Feine.

There existed a population group in Ireland, widespread across the island, whose name derived from a Proto-Indo-European root word *weidh- with various possible meanings such as "forest, wood, wilderness", "wild, feral, uncultivated", "separation, divide", or perhaps related to *weid "see, inspired (frenzied)".

This root gave the Proto-Celtic word *weido-/wedu- "wood, wilderness, wild, feral, uncultivated".

In Ireland the word had a suffix turning it (in its PIE form) into *weidh-n-yo, which became in Insular Celtic something like *Wednii, which in turn became *Uednii in Proto or Early Irish, and which evolved into Feni in Old Irish (Proto or Early Irish Ue- becoming Old Irish Fe-) and finally Feine in Modern Irish.

At the same time the word was given a different suffix in Britain (PIE *weidh-el-o), which became *Uedeli in British, evolving into Guidol in Brythonic and then Gwyddelod in Early and Modern Welsh (Brythonic Gu- turning to Welsh Gw-).

Both these names meant variously the "Forest, Wilderness People" , the "Outside, Separated People" or the "Wild, Frenzied People". The root words are so closely linked that all the meanings could apply.

The British/Welsh applied their word *Uedeli to the Irish raiders and settlers they came into contact with along the western and southern coasts of Britain from the 4th century AD onward, the leading members of whom called themselves the *Uednii, the British assuming that all the Irish raiders came from this population group.
These *Uednii became the Feni of Old Irish literature and history, and the ancestral group from which the later dominant Connachta/U' N eill and Eoghanachta populations emerged in the period from 400 AD to 600 AD.

The Brythonic/Welsh word Guidol/Gwyddelod then was brought back to Ireland entering the literary record of the newly emergent Christian monastic genealogist-historians as Old Irish Goid el, rapidly becoming the name for the whole Irish people, while at the same time the specific equation with the Feni (Mod.Ir. Feine) gradually diluted.

A less likely scenario would envision Goid el evolving naturally in Ireland, from the same root Proto- or Insular Celtic root as Feni, and being carried out from there, being adopted by the British-Welsh as a general term for the Irish.
Though how it would evolve organically I cannot see.

Does this sound reasonable????

3. Sweden: Latvians Petition Sweden to take over their Country

Subject: petition to Sweden from Latvians

Shalom,

Some Latvians apparently want Sweden to intervene and occupy their country.
Regards,
Orjan

Online Petition:

We, people of Latvia would like to ask Sweden to occupy Latvia. We consider that Latvian state has no reason to exist. We would like to become Swedish citizens and promise that we will comply with Swedish laws; in exchange we would like to get Swedish citizenship and share the same rights that Swedish people have.

Sincerely,
