During these days of continuous and deadly missile attacks from the Gaza strip on southern Israel, it is most eye-opening to take a look back to the days when the expulsion from Gush Katif was up for the decisive Knesset vote, and see the way some of Israel's elected representatives related to the nationalist warnings that what is occurring now would be the situation if Israel ever retreated from Gaza, as it did in August 2005.
Two years ago, during the previous rain of missiles, rockets and terror in the south that was met with the Cast Lead anti-terror operation, Channel 2's Amit Segal presented a montage of responses and comments by MKs whose parties were in then Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's coalition regarding the security-related predictions against the disengagement plan.

Six years ago, these and other Gush Katif residents pleaded their case to the government and the media, warning that missiles would reach Ashdod if they and the IDF left Gaza. Today, they point out that the 60-km range of Iranian Grad missiles in Gaza can easily reach tent encampments on Rothschild Boulevard in Tel-Aviv. The former Gaza residents are genuinely concerned about attacks on other Israeli communities, even though the leaders of the Tel Aviv encampment likely favored the forced expulsion of Jews from Gaza.
As the Internet site News1 headlined on Saturday night, one million Israelis in a 40-km radius around Gaza are now within missile range.

I'll have more on this as it develops (updated twice since the original report now), but for the short term, it appears that a non-visible light irradiance effect on Earth's cloud seeds has been confirmed. The way it is posited to work is that the effect of cosmic rays (modulated by the sun's magnetic variations which either allow more or deflect more cosmic rays) creates cloud condensation nuclei in the Earth's atmosphere. With more condensation nuclei, more clouds form and vice-versa. Clouds have significant effects on TSI at the surface.
[TSI is Total Solar Irradiance i.e. how much of the sun's heat reaches the surface.]
Even the IPCC [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] has admitted this in their latest (2007) report:
'Cloud feedbacks are the primary source of inter-model differences in equilibrium climate sensitivity, with low cloud being the largest contributor'.

As most archaeologists will know there is a link between sunspots and cosmic rays and the rate of production of C14 which affects the level of C14 in the atmosphere and hence Carbon 14 dates.
