 Esau in Germany

The German Edom

The ancient native Germans called their god "Koz" and assimilated him to the originally Scandinavian and Anglo Saxon Woden. Josephus (Antiquities xv.7,9) asserts and archaeological inscriptions confirm that the national god of the small state of Edom to the south and east of Judah was called "Kiazo" or "Koz" (or Cas) also rendered as "Qa-us". A king of Edom in the 600s BCE was named "Kosgaber" i.e. "he-man" of Kos. This name is derived from a Middle Eastern form of Esau since the initial "ayin" transliterated as "E" (in Esau) can be pronounced with a hard sound. Esau (under the name of "Koz") was therefore the supreme god of many in Germany.
Woden or Odin however is a name given to several deities just as Odin himself had numerous names.
One of the forms of Odin is probably also another form of the name Edom. In Hebrew the two words are similar. Edom was also known as Esau and we see above that Odin was also named Koz and that "Koz" was another form for the name "Esau".

[Odin of Germany is not necessarily the same as the one-eyed Scandinavian and Anglo-Saxon Odin whom we believe represented someone else.].

Odin in Germany was known as the great wild hunter. Esau was also known as a hunter.

## AND THE BOYS GREW: AND ESAU WAS A CUNNING HUNTER, A MAN OF THE FIELD; AND JACOB WAS A PLAIN MAN, DWELLING IN TENTS. [Genesis 25:27].

In Nations of Esau in Ancient Times we mentioned the Edoni, and Odomants of Thrace who were offshoots from Edom. Thrace was in southeast Europe but there were many movements from this region of peoples into Germany.

We also find the Idumi in the Baltic area to the east of Germany in Anglo-Saxon times and from this region hordes of slavonic and other groups moved westward to eventually become Germanized.

Other entities that appear to have encompassed elemetns from Edom include the ancient Spartans and the founders of Rome.
A straight forward reading of a passage in the Talmud (Megilla 6) identies Edom with ancient Rome and Germany.
[ The Talmudic scholar, Adin Steinzhaltz, appears to diagree with this interpretation but a Midrash confirms it.]

The Biblical Book of Obadiah is dedicated to an eventual war between Joseph and Edom. This is one of the identifying features of Joseph.
We identify the tribes of Joseph (Ephraim and Manasseh) with the English-Speaking peoples of the west and their offshoots.

Germany Thinkers at times seem to have also identified themselves with Esau or with characteristics pertaining to him.
The New Jewish Encyclopedia ("Race") quotes from a German anti-semitic Racial "specialist" who opined that the Jews and Germans had had some common ancestry in the distant past but that the German Nordic type was that of Esau rather than of Jacob.
This was written before World War -2 and the Holocaust and so may not have had the same sinister innuendos it now has.

The Nazis re-instituted the worship of Woden. The German Swiss psychologist Jung reported that in the period leading up to the rise to power of the Nazis and associated with it many people in Germany had recurring visions of Odin.
The psychologist C. Jung was well in tune with what was happening in Germany and Austria in the years leading up to the Nazi era. He reported:

## It was not in Wotan's nature to linger on and show signs of old age. He simply disappeared when the times turned against him, and remained invisible . . . working anonymously and indirectly. Archetypes are like riverbeds which dry up when the water deserts them, but which it can find again at any time . . . The longer it has flowed in this channel, the more likely it is that sooner or later the water will return to its own bed . . . The "German" god is the god of the Germans.
Jung, C. J. Essays on Contemporary Events, 20, 22.

Heinrich Heine (1797-1856):

Christianity -- and that is its greatest merit -- has somewhat mitigated that brutal German love of war, but it could not destroy it. Should that subduing talisman, the cross, be shattered, the frenzied madness of the ancient warriors, that insane Berserk rage of which Nordic bards have spoken and sung so often, will once more burst into flame. ...

The old stone gods will then rise from long ruins and rub the dust of a thousand years from their eyes, and Thor will leap to life with his giant hammer and smash the Gothic cathedrals. ...

Germany is not the only Edomite nation in existence. Neither do most Germans necessarily descend from Edom. A minority however does and these have exerted a disproportional influence at crucial moments in German History. They may do so again.
# here are some traits historically associated with Germany and its people: cleanliness, order, efficiency, and industry. Germans often refer to their country as "das Land der Dichter und Denker", the land of poets and thinkers. Even today, there are strong regional differences between parts of Germany with varying histories and geographies. Bavaria, in particular, has its own way of life and value systems. #

# German Europe, generally understood to include the modern countries of Germany, Austria and much of Switzerland, has produced an exceptional number of people with talents in such areas as music, philosophy, science and engineering. Austria and German-speaking Switzerland share many characteristics with Germans, yet are distinct in their own histories, cultures, and world views. #

Edomites to a significant degree are to be found amongst several nations. Any one of them (or all of them together) may be considered a candidate for the role of Edom in the End Times as described by the Bible.

In Jewish Tradition, Germany is referred to as "Ashkenaz". Ashkenaz was a son of Gomer son of Japhet (Genesis 10:3).

The Medieval Commentator, Rabbi Abraham Iben Ezra (1088-1164) said (on Obadiah 1:20) that the Canaanites who fled from the Israelites under Joshua went to Germany.

Many Israelites from the ten Tribes were also once in Germany but later mostly moved out.
