1. Latin American Tribe of  Jewish Descent are Midgets Immune from Diseases!
Do Ecuadorian dwarves hold the key to life-long health'
by Joseph Hall

Relevance to Brit-Am:

Article is interesting in its own right. The link between smallness of size, freedom from disease, and Jewish ancestry may also have applications in historical studies? Who knows?

They smoke. They drink. They're often obese.

Converso Dwarfs

Yet they don't suffer from Alzheimer's disease, strokes or diabetes.

One of them did develop a ravaging case of ovarian cancer. But she got better.

A group of some 100 diminutive Ecuadorians, who cling in poverty to mountainside villages in the southern part of that South American country, may be the most disease-free people on earth.

And a new study says the protective genetic secret of this extended family holds hope of a new treatments for many of the most common ailments of aging.

'Somehow the chronic disease mode doesn't seem to belong to this group at all,' says Valter Longo, one of the study's senior authors. The results were released Wednesday by the journal Science Translational Medicine.

'They just don't get the illnesses we associate with aging,' says Longo, a University of Southern California cell biologist.

Born with a condition called Laron syndrome, many of the interrelated villagers stand shorter than four feet. Their stunted height proved key to the mystery of their extraordinarily hale health, he says.

Descended from Spanish conversos, Jews who converted to Christianity to escape the inquisition, the disease resistant villagers all share a mutation in a gene that helps control a critical growth hormone.

This growth hormone receptor gene (GHR) is double recessive, which means that the protected individuals must receive one copy from each of their parents to activate its effects.

Relatives of the villagers with only one copy of the gene reach normal heights and are susceptible to all the diseases common among Ecuadorians.

Researchers directly observed the tiny villagers for 23 years and looked back through documents and family reminiscences over a century to figure out the riddle.

Doing extensive genetic analysis, they showed that those who lacked both copies of the normal GHR gene have far lower levels of a hormone known as Insulin-like Growth Factor 1, or IGF-1.

Longo says that diminished levels of growth hormones have been repeatedly linked to unusual longevity in simple organisms like yeast and worms. More recent studies have also shown that mice with growth hormone defects live 40 per cent longer than their normal counterparts, he says.

But while they lead lives free of the most common geriatric maladies, the Ecuadorian villagers don't generally reach extraordinarily old ages.

That's likely due more to their penchant for alcohol, according to Longo.

'They appear to die of a lot of accidents and strange causes,' he says. 'And this may be associated. . . with the fact that, at least the males, seem to drink a lot.'

Their small stature may also make them more susceptible to injuries, Longo adds.

2. Positive Emotions an Essential Anti-Aging Component

-essential-anti-aging-component/

Relevance to Brit-Am:

Brit-Am advocates Bible-learning and the internalization of Biblical values. This encompasses the encouragement of positive though patterns.
It is good to see that effects of such practice are not only positive in the moral and social spheres but also in that of physical well-being.

Extract:
It is generally accepted that the aging process is resultant from gradual declines in fundamental aspects of the neuroendocrine, cardiovascular, and immune systems, each of which contributes to increased risks of disease incidence and death. Anthony D. Ong, from Cornell University (New York, USA) studied the role of positive emotion as a mitigating factor to offset the risks of morbidity and mortality in older adults.  An optimistic outlook has been shown by previous researchers to combat stress, a known risk factor for many diseases.  As well, previous studies have found that people with stronger positive emotions have lower levels of chemicals associated with inflammation related to stress. And finally, studies suggest that the adoption of a positive attitude may help to reverse some of the physical damage caused by stress. Writing that: 'positive emotion [may be]  a contributing factor in lowering morbidity and mortality in older adults,' Dr. Ong submits that, taken collectively, the existing data suggest that positive emotions may be a powerful antidote to stress, pain, and illness.

3. More on Brit-Am DNA Considerations.
We would like to re-hash the position of Brit-Am Findings in the Light of DNA Findings.

(a) The Brit-Am Alternate DNA Proposal.
We now think that in general DNA haplogroups are a physical expression of the environment.
All DNA divisions correspond roughly with specific climates or geographic locations.
By analogy blondism is not a feature in itself but a relative lack of coloration similar to albinism.
In Northern Europe blondism is high especially amongst Nordic Races. It reaches say ca. 75% or more.
The Nordic Race has been considered an offshoot the Mediterranean Race.
In the Mediterranean Race blondism occurs in ca. 10-15 % of the cases. This is without taking account of Nordic racial infusion.
Blondism in the Mediterranean Race is autosomonous i.e. automatically emanating from the overall genetical structure of the Mediterraneans.
So too, we now think that different haplogroups are autosomnal occurrences i.e. cases of R1b etc may occur in different groups even though there is no hereditary connection between them.
Haplogroups R and N are the most complex. All other haplogroups are simplifications of R and N i.e. they have lost information and been simplified.
Environmental Influences may be responsible.

BUT, suppose one does not accept this Brit-Am DNA proposal?
Is there still a way of accepting DNA Beliefs and DNA Assertions?
See below:

(b)   Brit-Am Alternate Belief in the Light of DNA with Acceptance of Conventional DNA Dogma.

(1) From the Jewish Side.
The Jewish population in general from the DNA perspective is considered closest to the Kurds and Armenians from one point of view and to the Greeks and Italians from another.

Here we are dealing with female mtDNA and male YDNA separately.
First of all female mtDNA is no problem. Most of Europe is more or less the same and the Jews reflect most of Europe and the Middle East.
Relying only on mtDNA then the Ten Tribes could be anywhere in Europe.
This also makes anywhere in Europe the most likely place to find them!!!
As for the males,
Roughly speaking
Ashkenazi Jews have about 20% Y(Male transmitted) J1. J1 is prevalent amongst Yemenite Jews (75%) and Gentile Arabs (62%).
Sephardic Jews have about 12% J1.
Ashkenazi Jews have about 23% Y(Male transmitted) J2.
Sephardic Jews have about 29% J2.
Main Source:

Male_lineages:_Y_chromosomal_DNA

Jewish Cohens have about 40% J1 and 40% J2, i.e. ca. 80% of J. Cohens are the least likely to be descended from non-Israelite infusion.
Based on conventional findings, We may take J (J1 and J2) as representing the original Jewish haplogroup though Brit-Am thinks this is misleading.
J is not that different from I. In fact I and J are probably effectively the same. YDNA haplogroup I is found in Scandinavia, Northern Germany, as well as in Sardinia and parts of Southeast Europe.
To claim that part of the Ten Tribes are found amongst I haplogroup peoples is not so far-fetched since I really is a division of J and after more than 3000 years of separation some differentiation might be expected.

(2) From the Brit-Am Ten Tribes Aspect.
Most peoples we identify as belonging to the Ten Tribes are R1b, some are R1a, and others I. Groups of G etc are also found as minorities.
I is no problem and as explained above may be considered an offshoot of Jewish J.
The minorities are also no problem since the same relative percentages are also found amongst Jews.
R1a is similar to ca. 20% (figures differ) of Ashkenazim and someone with R1a may well find genetic closeness to an Ashkenazi Jew.
R1a is also found amongst Indian Brahmins, and Gentile East Europeans.
It is usually assumed that R1a amongst Jews is due to Gentile influx.
[Though we would suggest that environmental factors should also be considered.
There is nothing wrong with conversion to Judaism by non-Israelite Gentiles. On the contrary it indicates great spiritual potential, physical bravery, courage of conviction, self-sacrifice, and the ability to think independently. These are all positive traits.]

R1b (West European) is similar to ca. 12% of Jews mainly Sephardim e.g. ca. 16% of Syrian Jews are R1b.
[Here too it is usually assumed that the presence of R1b is due to non-Jewish infusion but see below. It is not necessarily so.]
R1b is found amongst ca. 80% of Western Europeans.
R1b is now considered to have arisen in Northern Syria or Eastern Turkey. From there it moved westward. Its presence in Europe or at least its predominance in Western Europe is now considered to be relatively recent. This is based on the latest findings of archaeology and DNA analysis.

The area of northern Syria and East Turkey (where R1b originated) could be associated with at least part of the Ancient Israelites. Abraham came from  here.
This does not mean that all R1b would be from the Lost Ten Tribes. It does however indicate that belonging to R1b would not automatically preclude descent from Israelites.
